Hi folks,

Have just purchased a Canon 17-55mm f2.8 Lens and being a 77mm thread, I'm going to need a CPL for it, any recommendations?

I'm not interested in recommendations based on spec, I'm more interested in real world experiences with said CPL's :) especially as it's likely to cost me £140+ :)

Thanks!

Rob

B+W made by Schneider Kreuznach, make a Multi Coated Kasemann Circular Polariser - best i've come across so far.

B+W, but really would bother with the extra price of the Kasemann unless you are working in extreme conditions.

B+W MRC Kasemann or Marumi DHG / Super DHG.

I also use a Hoya Pro1D, bought off amazon for about £75, so much less than the £140 you mention.

I've also used the more basic Hoya range in the past which is about half the price, but you do really notice the difference for paying the extra. Also if your lens is a 77mm thread that's a prety common size for top quality glass so you may be able to use it with other lenses in the future. So worth spending the extra on the better filter.

Bought a Kenko from the classifieds here and seems to be fine

Allegedly made by Hoya in the same factory, but who knows

I use a Hoya pro 1 and had some fantastic results, use to use a cheap Hama and to be honest it was probably just as good.

on a recommendation i bought a 77mm Sigma EX DG Circ Polarizer last year... the results are excellent...

prior to that i had used the blue Hoya which are more than acceptable for a good price...

also get in touch with kerso on here, he just sold me a couple of ND filters that were half the price of what they were on amazon

I use Hoya Pro 1 all the time. I tried a Hama one once, it was poor compared to the Pro 1 so I returned it.
