Hi all,

I took delivery of my Medion P7815 laptop

Really impressed with the speed and stability of the Windows 8 OS, so far, touch wood. Laptop performance is impressive so far and Lightroom 4.2 64 bit is super quick on my new machine. Did experience some slowness prior to installing 12 Windows updates yesterday with me having to select the fix option to get Windows update to work.

The screen is undoubtedly the weak point, with lack of resolution and contrast for photo editing, so plan on using the laptop HDMI output to an external monitor to post process images. Can anyone recommend one in the £250 price bracket, that I can aim to save up for.

So all in all, I have a fast portable machine that I can do my every day stuff on, but feel a monitor is needed when sitting down to process my photographs.

Thanks in advance

It all depends on your budget. How much are you willing to spend? I can recommend any number of panels.. all from personal experience, but I need to know your budget.

How the hell did I miss that? LOL

Thanks...

In that case, it becomes quite easy. I would however, recommend a 16:10 panel over a 16:9. It makes far more sense for a computer screen and 16:9 screens are only 1080 pixels vertically, so the screen can get a bit crowded sometimes.

There's not really that much at that price that's not rubbish TN type panels, and you really want either S-PVA or IPS panels for serious colour work.

The Dell U2412M is a great screen. It uses white LEDs for backlighting instead of CCFL, but it's still a good performer and calibrates very well. It's e-IPS too , so colour viewing angles and accuracy will be high.

Search Ebay for NRG:IT and look for a refurbished Dell U2410 though, as you'll be able to get one at that price. This is a seriously great 24" screen. IPS panel, CCFL backlighting, and a true wide gamut panel. I always forget about the Dell refurbs... they will come with a warranty and should be as new.

I'd also recommend the Dell Ultrasharp range. Brilliant monitors. Used both the U2412 and U2410 without any issues :)

Thanks guys. I think I'll go for the Dell 2412M later his week as they seem very hard to beat at that price.

Very similar price to Amazon once delivery of £15 factored in.

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you all!
