Due to not being careful & a complete idiot, i went and dropped my kit lens lastnight. Wasnt a huge impact but its moved one of the blades so its catching when zooming. I know theres not much point in spending money on getting it repaired (out of warantee) as its only a kit lens and they dont seem to be very expensive.

My question is, do i buy an exact replacement or is there another better lens (around the same price) as the sony?? Its currently a 18-70 DT 3.5-5.6.

to be honest i think you might as well as look for an upgrade, unless the kit lens suited you very well. possibly try looking for something that has what you lacked in you lens.

if you were happy with the range, a lot of people like the sigma 17-70, havent heard many complaints bout it.

Being new to photography, the range on the kit lens was fine for what i needed it for. Seriously happened at the wrong time!!! Really cant afford to be paying out for ANY lens at the moment but with my other 'one and only' lens being a 75-300mm i desperately need something! Even if it means a budget lens until after xmas.

For a start off put a wanted ad on here.

Someone may have an old Minolta lens lying around that would tide you over for not much £

Is there a huge noticable difference in range between 18 & 28mm. I've found a bargain 'Sigma AF 28-135 f:3.8-5.6 Aspherical IF Macro DG lens'.

yes - you notice the difference in focal length much more at the short end. You wouldn't notice 10mm difference if you were talking about 290 or 300mm lenses, but you do between 18 and 28mm

I was using my 18-70 kit lens with a raynox 250 for macro/close-up shots. The 'Sigma ASP IF 28-135mm 3.8-5.6 macro' has a minimum focus distance of 9.4" (24cm), maximum magnification 1:2. How would this lens compare against the Sony kit lens when used with a raynox??
