I'm going to the Silverstone F1 GP this year and will be sat in the Luffield B stand. Hopefully I'll be able to get some good shots of the infield section of the track.

Will my 100-400 be the bizz, of should I hire a 500 or 600?

Thanks in advance for your advice

i have done a few track days at Silverstone and i think you should be fine with your 100-400 pal i was in some positions where i was fine with my 70-200.

As above, you should be fine at Luffield with the 100-400. It worked out ok for me using upto 300

100-400 should be fine. Luffield B is a great stand as you get them through the whole complex right up towards the straight, though do you know what row?

Last time I attended the Silverstone F1 was in 1984! I had my practica mtl3 and a 150 prime lens. I got some great panning photos out of that. I understand the the run offs are wider now but its all down to physics. You get closer to the action where there is less chance of thr car running off.

Thanks guys, am looking forward to my first F1 experience

If your going for the whole weekend try to get your shots on the Friday and Saturday - you'll find it easier as it will be quiter. You should be able to walk into the general admission areas too with your grandstand ticket so you get more varied shots.

Dont forget your earplugs and Kangeroo TV! :)

A bit of a thread hijack, but it's too similar for a new thread...

I'm going to the GP this year, and naturally want some nice shots. I have a general admission ticket for all 3 days, so going to have a good wander on Fri & Sat. For the race a mate who's been before has scouted a good position, I think it's at the end of the Hangar Straight.

Anyway, I'm hiring a Nikon 300/4 with a 1.4x TC for a week - should that cover me? It's a mate's stag do so I'm not trying to be Darren Heath, but I do want some nice piccies for us all to look back on :-)
