Recommendations for tutorial beginner studio lighting DVDs/books

Can anyone recommend any tutorial DVD,s or book,s which take you through the very very basics of studio lighting, through to getting more advanced, i'm sure there's probably plenty about, but just trying to make sure i get the right one, ie, taking you through the very basics on lights/camera settings/positioning etc etc, as if you hadn't used studio lights before, any recommendations much appreciated.

I always recommend mine
There are written tutorials on portrait, still life, artistic nude, model portfolio and glamour lighting (plus another on lighting equipment) for under £6 each and videos on the same subject (with free written tutorial included) for £21.95 including postage.

I think that has to depend on your personal interests - the glamour one for example won't be much use to someone who wants to learn how to light products

I love your location. That would be mine to. Lying on a beach on Phi Phi.. What a beautiful place. I should be there again this year.
I am just looking for forums to tell people about a creative lighting workshop that will be held in Eastbourne East Sussex. Its a 1 day course. Not sure if its of any use to you.. When your all the way in Thailand.. LoL..

Point taken , i was thinking more in line with the actual lighting setup, ie positioning, settings, how many lights i may need, as i'm working in a room 12x13 with 2 elite pro 300,s plus maybe a SB900 if needs must, and trying to get a pure white background which may be impossible in such a small space , unless i do PP which i would also like to keep to an absolute minimum, as regards what i'm lighting it's people, standing, sitting, laying down, or even head and shoulder's portraits is what i had in mind

Ah if you read it again you will see i said "in my head laying on a beach on Phi Phi island, but in reality in the land of the concrete cow's" if you worked where i do you need an outlet and as that's one of my favourite places in the world it always comes to mind first, i'm actually in sunny Milton Keynes

The Portrait video will probably be best for you then. A pure white background is possible in that space, but it will be difficult to do it both well and easily.
Personally I'll be glad when that particular 'style' fades away, and people get back to what portrait photography is really about - lighting to bring out the beauty or character of the person.
