Well since the demise of Hotmail, i am now looking for another email provider, since Hotmail went over to Outlook it just continues to deteriorate, as i am typing this i am on my 4th attempt of trying to open my Hotmail, i cannot for the life of me think why Microsoftinthehead changed this over, as it is just totally crap now, the saying "if it's not broke don't fix it" comes to mind.

So basically i am looking to change my email address over completely, i have Yahoo, but I'm not sure if that's any better, as I use it rarely, so basically I am looking for something that is simple and easily accessible, so any recommendations greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Another vote for gmail...

My hotmail is working fine, although I did experience a problem logging into Outlook a few days ago.

gmail (googlemail)

gmail? Accessible anywhere, etc etc....

I had heard Gmail wasn't so good, having said that, that was a while back, but i think i am going to go with it now :)

why isnt hotmail working?

Since the switch over to outlook, it's horrendous, trying to sign in, lagging when you get in while you're trying to read mail, some days it's ok but days like today, it's just impossible :bang:

I am now on about my 15th attempt to access email :bang:

I've had my hotmail address for 20 years and I've never had a problem with it. Until I read this post I didn't know it had changed at all. I've accessed it on my phone, ipad, laptop & desktop all in the last 3 days and not noticed any change or any problems.

I have windows live (or whatever it's called) on my laptop and desktop and they've both worked fine this week. When was the change to Outlook?

you sure theres not an issue with your machine?

Yep positive, everything else works fine, i know i am not the only one having issues with Outlook since the switch over, i have read lots about it, hence the change, i'm going over to gmail now anyway, as i've just about had enough, it's a real pain really, as i had the hotmail account since 2004, with lots of contacts, so i'm just going to have everything forwarded until i give people my new address.

Set up a Hotmail addy last year (rather fancied the idea of Nod@live.com or whatever!) but even though I was 100% certain I had the correct password etc, it simply wouldn't work for me. While blahdiblah@gmail.com doesn't have the same feelgood factor, it simply works! Can be accessed anywhere computer access is possible and I get alerts sent to my Blackberry (and use that to deal with them when possible).
Since a computer problem lost me OE's mail access, I use the gmail account as my main one.

Outlook.com not a patch on Hotmail. Very slow loading most of the time.

The interface of gmail is waaay better than Outlook IMO. It's really easy to attach files to emails and arrange them into folders etc. I still use my outlook/hotmail address but have gmail as my primary account.

+1 for gmail. have been using it for getting on 10 years. Never had any issues. Good amount of space and a good spam filter. Never been down as far as i can remember.

Interesting to see no suggestions of yahoo. I have been using them for years but recently opened a Gmail account because my yahoo inbox got so much spam that I couldnt stop and it didnt have enough space.

Bit annoying because I got a new address when the new @ymail came out so I basically got my first choice.

Same issue with spam on my yahoo account. Don't get any on my Gmail. It could be because of my email address in Gmail but not sure.

The new web address used by whatever Hotmail is now called is at http://www.by146w.bay146.mail.live.com

Down for everyone website reported a few minutes ago that it was inaccessible.
I stopped using Hotmail when it changed - just a hassle.

One of many servers.. That one was probably down but using the normal address would have directed you through another.

gmail works a treat pretty much everywhere

if you are an apple only user (sounds like not) there is also their own mail/calendar account

I've never liked hotmail, so whatever they've done to could only be for the better
