Yes
I was initially considering buying a new camera bag having outgrown my Lowepro Fastpack 250 but I have since decided I want to maintain an element of flexibility given that I sometimes want to take my camera out on short walks in a 35-litre Berghaus bag whilst sometimes I want to go on hikes and expeditions in which case I take my 65+10-litre LoweAlpine bag. Therefore I am now convinced I need a compartment system which I can transfer between bags.

I would like one to fit in the smaller, easily-accessible part of the LoweAlpine bag, and that is unlikely to accommodate anything more than a dSLR and two lenses but I would also consider a larger system which will fit out the Berghaus bag and be stored in the main section of the LoweAlpine.

Do any of you use such a system and would you gladly recommend any one over another?

Yes, FStop gear do bags like that. There was a big thread last week.

I just bought a lowpro slingshot bag and must say its fantastic. Its so versatile with lots of space and the idea when you sling it round to access your camera quickly is brilliant. The all you do is sling it back. Very comfortable on the back as well... Would fully recommend this bag if you need quick access to your camera when walk or doing street photography.

Thanks. For me though this isn't a consideration. I need the flexibility of 2/3 bags really and thus an insert is the most appropriate way to achieve this.

Tenba do a padded insert like this LINK, if you want to adapt an existing bag.

Does anyone use this on a regular basis? I'm quite interested in this, because of the adaptability for different bags. MCL Media seem to be the only people on this side of the pond selling the inserts though, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of reviews on them

(weirdly, Amazon US has many different camera inserts from different manufacturers but we have basically nothing on Amazon UK, eBay UK :bang:)

FStop gear sell insert with out their bag. US based, but delivered from EU.

Thanks for the heads-up - they look interesting, but most of them are designed to open up for a backpack. The opening flap wouldn't be very suitable for a messenger bag, which is what I had in mind. At the moment I just use a small camera bag inside the messenger bag, I reckon I'll probably just end up continuing to do that - gives enough padding without being a headache in trying to find a bespoke camera insert from the US.
