can any one recommend a lens that would fit a canon 450d or 500d. i don't want to spend massive amouts but don't want some thing that isn't going to produce decent images.

any test images for recommended lenses would also be good.

cheers

Budget?

Not much cash: 55-250 IS (second hand if you want it cheaper)
Fair amounts of cash: 70-300 IS (again, second hand if need be) or 70-200 f2.8 Sigma
Lots of cash: 70-200 f2.8L IS. One day.....one day.

Cheers,
James

I have been using the 55-250mm on my 450d and been impressed with the results, considering I am still new and don't get to play as much as I like with my camera. Most of the shots in my galleries have been taken with this lens.

You can spend as much or as little as you like! (sort of). I have a 70-300 IS if you want any sample images, can't help much with the other 2!

70-200 F4L might be worth a look - £480 from Kerson I think.

I used the 17-85 IS on my 400, its now used as a walk about lens on my 50D, its a great lens in IMO, the results always please me, much moreso than from the 70-300 IS.
They are available quite reasonably second hand too, but Kerso has good prices on them.

As you haven't mentioned lens brand baring the sigma i take this are canon branded?

I am open to any brand providing it fits the canons dslr

thanks for the info i will browse the images in the gallery. any other recomendations, tamron, sigma, canons own,

Budget i am unsure i don't mind spending up to the £200 mark but beyond that i would have to seriously think. I would be a beginner like as moving from bridge camera to slr.

with a budget of around £200, for a zoom I'd agree with the above the Canon 55-250 IS lens is a good one, gets good reviews and beats a lot of other lens (inc some of canons other lens) in tests done. Don't think you'd be disappointed with it

Another thought

The Canon 28-135 IS F3.5-5.6 lens is a cracker and can be picked up 2nd hand for around your budget, this would give you a wider angle, but not as long - so another slightly different option

I was in a similar situation as yourself budget-wise and ended up getting the 55-250 IS. Does take a good picture though havent used it that much so far (only had it about 3 weeks). Cheapest price I foudn was at Camerabox.co.uk. £175.
