sorry if this is off topic, but didn't know which topic area to go.

looking for a photo printer at about £100 budget.

what's good or not, what to look out for etc.? as for the bad ones, please point out why

hoping something from main high street retail, so i can get before xmas

I picked up an Epson R360 recently, does a pretty decent job with the right profiles installed. I wouldn't say it was top end pro quality but for the money I can't complain.

I've got the Epson R360. For the price it's a great printer. It does however like to drink the ink!

thanks. drink ink you say, so how many prints from a cartridge.

does it have different cartridges, black, colour etc.?

I've not found it too bad. With the included set (which are usually only half full) I got about 50 6x4 prints before I need to change any. There's 6 carts but it's cheaper to buy the multipack which is about £30 from PC world, might be a bit cheaper online but once you include postage it costs more.

it's an xmas gift for the other half, and i'm sure i'll be using it too, so wanted something half decent. is £100 a good budget for a mid range portable printer?

also heard epson picturemate range are good, but looking out for it in retail stores.
how do these differ to Epson R360.

as for option for epson r360, is it best to consider this over the normal HP and Canon ones you see from likes of currys, pc world etc.? just to make a short list?

R360 can be had from Amazon for £79.89

PCW will even pricematch

i'm swaying towards picturemate epson now.

epson online do it for £130, and can write to cd etc.

OK guys forget Epson and the rest.
At the £100 price point you will not do better than going for one you will not have thought of!

Get the Kodak all in one. PC World, Currys etc.

Why?
Well, firstly Image quality is professional.
It uses less ink than any other
Inks are only £16 for the COMPLETE set
prints are laquered and waterproof when they emerge.
It is quick at about 90 secs for a 10x8
you have a draw for 6x4 paper so click it in and bingo! no swapping around with trays and paper.
It recognises Kodak paper and sets the right profile
It is compatible with other papers too

And you get a scanner and a card reader and a
screeen so you dont even need a computer to run it!
a screen!

Go to the Kodak site and you can get a PDF download of a test against HP Canon and Epson by Digital Photographer magazine who gave it an award of excellence saying it was head and shoulders abofe the others.

I can personally vouch for its image quality and ease of use.

thanks, but i wanted to get a portable, small one.

have got my eye on epson picturemate 280

thanks for all the input. got the epson picture mate 290 in the end. picture quality is awesome and comes out nice and quick too.

Has epson changed their design yet? the last 3 I had they just clog up and uses up more ink to clean than print.
