ok its renewal time for my broadband after 12months and im not too pleased with the service im getting with freedom2surf, im paying far too much for the speed im getting (£24.99 per month for 2mb- the deal was that if i exchange got upgraded in speed i would be upgraded with no costs, bit of a ripoff as im tus paying for speed im not getting!)and i want to go elsewhere


really i want one with no download limits but i want to save money :)


please recommend me people, thanks!
 
Trouble is there really aren't any isps these days that offer unlimited downloads, cheap and with good service as well.

I went from Pipex, to Nildram then when Pipex bought them I moved to F2S then when Pipex bought them I moved to Zen, I live in fear that Pipex will make a bid for Zen next :( Both Nildram and F2S were great until Pipex got their hands on them then they bottomed out pretty fast. I finally decided that it was better to pay the premium for a decent service and chose Zen. £24.99 for 8mb with a 20GB limit which I have never come close to.

Shame your stuck with ADSL as cable are pretty good now. I was on ADSL but BT tried to tell me we have no telephone line at this house even though the previous occupants used them :cuckoo: so i went to cable. I'm on the 10MB and it rocks and i used to slate them :embarrassed:
 
I use and recommend Andrews & Arnold who are one of the best ISPs I've ever had the pleasure of using. Not the cheapest, but you do get what you pay for.
I'm on the 3GB/month tariff, which limites me to 3GB per month during peak times (Monday to Friday 8am-6pm) which suits me fine as I'm at work during that time anyway, and most of my line usage is for upload from my web servers.
I get an SMS if my line goes down, access to ping/latency/usage graphs which I can use to keep an eye on my line, and access to a tech support team that actually know their stuff!

Recently had to deal with BT Yahoo Internet on behalf of a client, and nearly had a nervous breakdown talking to their support staff!
 
I've been with NTL *ahem* Virgin Media now since 2001 and it's been excellent. I've probably had a total of less than 6 hours without Broadband up in that time which to me is staggeringly good. If you're in a cabled area I certainly recommend them despite the old horror stories about their customer support.

Tough call... In the real world all the ISPs are tightning their belts regarding dishing out bandwidth...:(

To be honest the real problem with half the people in Britain they feel they must download half the internet just because they can, Then the relevent ISPs can't make ends meet and have to incure bandwidth restrictions..:(

Good luck in your quest to find the ISP you are looking for, The adslguide forums has plenty of reviews on each and every one of the UKs leading ISPs..

Have a read over there for a while and see who is the best for you..:)

Seriously though, I know they get slated, but I've been with them for years and never had a problem.
p.s. I never use the AOL software though, just use firefox and outlook :)

I agree, I've been with them from the dial up days, got broadband as soon as it was available, downtime is almost non existant.
 
theres sadly no cable in my area or i would consider it.


i cant say id actually use that much bandwidth so i guess unlimited isnt really what i need as im not big on downloading films, i do download a few albums here and there but now theres only me on the connection for the time being it shouldnt be a big problem
 
I've been with eclipse internet for what seems like an age.

Not the cheapest by any means, but over the last 4 years or so, I've had one outage and that was due to a bt fault :)
 
Whatever you do don't touch talktalk. Might be very cheap but customer service is nil!!!
 
Try Supanet.com Been with them 10yrs now approx. Good service and reasonable cost.
 
Not sure if you're in a LLU area. If you are check if you can get Be internet. I have their £24 package which is essentially unlimited in terms of bandwidth. The download rate is up to 24Mbps (if you live in the exchange) - I get 13Mbps in busy Wandsworth and that's with my archaic house phone wiring which needs replacing. The best part though is the 1.3Mbps upload - makes faffing about with my website and uploading photos to Photobox a breeze.

Excellent service too - not had any downtime since install in October. Also only took 2 days from ordering to get connected

That is so true it's unbelievable, I'm currently working in sales for a well known broadband supplier ;) and the number of people who say "i want unlimited" and when asked what they use BB for they say "looking on the net at holidays, ebay and email", they just think they are getting ripped off if it doesn't say unlimited.

yeah lol, get a few people moaning about them every day :p usually they are still stuck in a contract though :rules:

Can't really recommend anyone as I only really have experience of one supplier from when i was back home and for me they were great, effcient and helpful but i see a lot of people moaning about them online. It seems like finding a good ISP is like Russian roulette and you can get a good or bad experience with any of them, good luck though :)

Be, if your exchange is enabled. They tick all the boxes above.
 
I am using force9 for the last 2 1/2 years and they have been great so far. £14.99 per month, 8MB, Unlimited download. I work from home on Fridays and touchwood it's a breeze so far.
