Hi, i'm looking for a boom arm i can use with my existing light stand, a konig, to hold a lastolite ezy-box. The cheaper the better, but obviously i'd like it to do the job.

I'd like something like this but it's too pricey and i already have a stand http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk/light_stands_brackets_etc/manfrotto_420_combiboom_stand_with_sandbag/11581_p.html

I was thinking about this but the reviews say it's made of plastic and not very good http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-interfit-cor757-2-section-boom-arm/p1011571

Is there anything out there like the manfrotto which will clamp directly onto my existing lightstand?

looking to spend about £50 :D

I was looking in to this myself and still haven't made a decision, but I did decide NOT to get the Interfit that attaches to the lightstand due to some bad reviews I read, there are even bad reviews on that sales page itself if you click on their customer reviews.

Yeah i've read those reviews that's what put me off.

martin thanks for that link it looks nice. A few questions: Do the caster wheels come off? I take my stuff out on location and wouldn't want it blowing away in the wind/ rolling off down a hill

Is it a standard spigot on the end?
would it take a studio head?
And does it have a carry bag.

I've also found this, what do you think:

they also do a heavier duty one but it dosen't look like you can position the weight, not sure how much of a disadvantage that is in real life:

I use a calumet boom (the smallest they do) and its great for speedlights, will take a 600ws mono with a big ass dish but it worries me a little.

Never put any boom on ****** konigs you want either a big C stand or a heavy duty normal stand at least

David how would the calumet fare with a speedlight softbox? have you got a link?

should be fine with a softbox its the weight thats an issue as it beings to bow a little laden up, its this one doesn't come with any brass monekys so buy a few when you're there (cheap and always handy to have about) but it does come with everything else to put it on a stand and the counterweight is a good size (though heavy)

erm if you're real nice I'll grab one tomorrow when I break down the kit with a heavy light and a speedlight softbox on it, any other requests as its with a lot of kit atm so I can show most things

Been using it studio and having it on a fairly heavy stand not my uber 13' ones (as they do bg cos they're a pair) which I think is part of what worries me about it with the weight on it

this boom is more than alright for a speedlight setup. Works fine, comes with a spigot etc.

ok I lost my spigot then :p

yeah like I say speedlights great go at funny angles the and never worry me its just the heavy stuff that worries me

Yeah i've read those reviews that's what put me off.

martin thanks for that link it looks nice. A few questions: Do the caster wheels come off?

sportysnaps: it looks like that can be removed - but dont need to

I take my stuff out on location and wouldn't want it blowing away in the wind/ rolling off down a hill

sportysnaps: No chance of this as all three have large locks on then

Is it a standard spigot on the end?

sportysnaps: yes
would it take a studio head?
sportysnaps:yes
And does it have a carry bag.
sportysnaps:no

sportysnaps: not a lot as it has a stupid hanging bag weight thing that (you have to fill) that will also swing around when moving the stand. The one i brough has a 4Kg metal weight which is fully adjustable and removable

they also do a heavier duty one but it dosen't look like you can position the weight, not sure how much of a disadvantage that is in real life:

sportysnaps: i have found it useful to move the weight

Thanks for all the info guys, david pics would be great but I'm not in any rush so take your time. I think I'm going to hold off on buying anything at the moment as I've got a load of things to pay for all of a sudden. I like the look of martins link, If I had a studio I'd probably go for that one

atm its still holding down the front of the paper roll (stupid gaffer resistant floor tiles) but I will do you one at some point
