Hi all,

Im currently using an Epson R220 & I also have a Epson DX4400 all in one.

The DX4400 isnt bad but the scanner software wont load
for some reason so it remains un-used at the moment.

The R220 is the best printer I have used to date but im looking for a bit more
from my prints.

I have around £70 or less & have seen the following :-

Canon PIXMA iP2600 Inkjet £35 Tesco

Canon IP4600 inkjet printer £89 Tesco

Has anybody had any experience with the above mentioned or can you point
me in the right direction for something better than the R220?

Thanks in advance.

I really hate epsons in this range

pixma 4 colour printers or over everytime for me.
ip4600 in your range then

the 2600 will have no dedicated photo black if the rules have stayed the same since I sold this lot

Save, save, save. I have the Canon Pixma 5200, and it is good - nothing more. I do not like the way it seems to "layer" the colours, or the way it treats sky shots.
I may have to invest in a much more expensive Epson.

I have a Pixma MP470 and find it pretty good quality, but don't have too much to compare it to.

If the R220 is still working fine then I'd hang on to your pennies.

Thanks for the assistance guys, I think I will wait a couple of weeks & I
should then be able to stretch to around the £250 mark.

MP620 is as good as anything for your money and can be had for about £100

I have the Canon MP540 & find it pretty pretty good - it certainly compares favourably to my previous Epson R220, not sure it uses any less ink though !!

I wouldn't ever buy an inkjet again. God awful things and expensive to run.

A colour laser for basic home use, and then Photobox for printing photos is my preferred solution.

I agree home printing is a waste of money.

That said I just bought an HP C4580 for occassional use, which is a wireless multifunction.

Photo quality, even with the gloss black fitted, is really very good indeed. The black can be replaced with a 3-colour (6-colours in total then) which I imagine would be even better.

I just got one of these. The only disadvantage to you is the lack of colour, but you could always keep the R220 for colour documents. I paid £55 in a small chain store which you dont have in England, but you can get the next model down, the ML-1640, for the same price on the dixons site. (i actually went out to buy the 1640 but got the 2240 on the basis that it was the same price and uses the same toner)

Toner is £40 from amazon and will do 1500 pages so is much more economical than an inkjet (I use toner save mode, which gives just under 2000 per cartridge with little noticeable difference). It is fast (compared to an inkjet), quiet and gives perfect crisp results. There is none of the banding you see on inkjets when using anything other than best mode. Oh yea, and it comes with a 700 page starter toner so you don't have to get a new cartridge straight away.

And yea, get photos printed professionally.

I rarely print photos (!) but have a Canon IP4500 which is excellent - Fast, not pricey (compared to others), excellent photo quality, built in duplex.

Much prefer it to the epson I had, although that was 5+ years ago. Always blocking.
