Recommend me a Plasma TV

ive got a 50" panasonic plasma in the living room and just got a 32" sony bravia lcd for the bedroom.. can honestly say that the panasonic knocks spots off the sony! i was quite surprised, but it really does look rubbish!

SONY BRAVIA

enough said.

Sony make a very very decent, if not best LCD's, but there plasma's are not upto the Panasonic's

that was said about 4 years ago, now the LCD technology is better and the plasma still there

LCD has moved forward, but it still isnt upto Plasma's in the right environment, LCD's can stand a bright room much better the a plasma, but get a plasma in a room with no direct light to hit the screen then nothing yet beats a good plasma.

LED's will be the future though i think.

Anyone have experience with the new backlit (not sidelit) LED tvs?

I am sure that I got the wrong end of the stick, but I thought that the LEDs were still considered LCD (I understand Light emitting and Liquid Crystal IS different) when discussing TVs? Something to do with the way that they are lit up?

Looking forward to being educated!

Basically, yes. LCD tvs are still LCD tvs regardless of how they are lit. The new ones are backlit by a wall of LEDs instead of the edge mounted fluorescent tubes. This allows them to be individually controlled for brightness thus allowing a greater black contrast. It also allows then to be much much slimmer.
Now OLED screens are a different kettle o fish. The screens themselves are made up of Organic LED elements which are self illuminating. This also allows a screen to be near paper thin. Trouble is, they are not very large and bloody expensive so far.

Or summat like that...

More then one type of 'LED' tv a true LED backlit, and LED-backlit LCD.

A true LED tv isnt an LCD, but an LCD that is backlit by LEDs is still thought of as an LCD, its better then a standard LCD, but not as good as true OLED.

I spose it all boils down to how much you have/want to spend. Sony for example have about 5 model ranges with differing price ranges. They essentially all use the same panel but it is the electronics and processing that differs.

I'm still no nearer to deciding what to get. LCD or plasma, Panny or Sony (though I am leaning towards sony as my old Wega has served me very well for ten years! Just need to decide which model, V,W etc etc.

 Sony have never made plasma's mate.

Try googling the following model numbers.

Sony KE32TS2 HD HD Plasma TV
Sony KE42MR1 HD HD Plasma TV
Sony KE42TS2 HD Plasma TV
Sony KE37XS910 HD HD Plasma TV
Sony TV PFM 42V1S HD HD Plasma TV
Sony PFM 42 B2 HD Plasma TV

Finished up with an LG 42" - £675 inc stand and 5 years extra cover.

Cool.....i'd put LG a close second in plasmas (but their lcd's suck, imo)
