Recommend me a new tri-pod

Hi folks,
Looking for peoples views and reviews on tri-pods.
The one I have at the mo (Hama star 61) given to me for free is now showing signs of needing replaced (dips slightly on the horizontal plane)
I like the look of the new ball head setups but I will probably only have a budget of about 80-90 pounds.
Let me know what you have yourself or would recommend.

Seriously though, it makes a massive different having a decent tripod. I spent two years battling with a hama star tripod only to replace it with a Manfrotto 055pro and 222 trigger head. VAST improvement but a little out of your posted budget. I have seen the red snapper stuff and the quality looks really good. I chose the Manfrotto though because it was on special offer with the trigger head and I really do like that head.
 
I recommended red snapper to a friend, he ordered a 283 for £49.99, I was pretty impressed with the legs, the head less so but if you've been using a Hama Star it'll feel like you're using a £500 tripod in comparison.

You could add a better head to take it up to your £80-90 budget

LOL I know!

It was fine using the kit lens but now that I have a 70-200 F4 L with a lens collar the tri-pod doesn't feel as stable and I don't want to risk breaking the lens.

:plusone: Pre Loved from TP classified section for £ 45.00 for the legs and same for the head - so 90 IIRC

Well I bought a Giottos monopod today for £30 and was very impressed with the quality. I had to attack it with a razor blade in order to fit a manfrotto quick release plate to it and it is now ready for action. It is nowhere near as nice as the Gitzo one I bought for Mrs_C for Christmas to go with the D300 I also got her but it is still quite good. I wouldn't hesitate in buying more of their kit.
 
The problem I had is I've used cheap manfrottos ... about £50 and frankly it wouldn't hold my 16-35mm never mind a 5D aswell, however a great piece of gear for a P&S, but you can't really judge manfrotto by that bad experience as their pricier tripods are the real deal! I bought a camlink in the end for my 5DmkII under the consensus that a top of the range cheap company one will be better than a bottom of the range manfrotto. Just my experience though, but the cheaper end from the top tripod companies may not be what you expected
 
Just bought a Giottos MTL9251B with a 5011 head cost me £80 from the Focus on Imaging venue,seems really excellent spec for the money,well worth a look.
