Hi,

As the title says really. I have Canon 450 and a budget of £300ish.

Thank you:wave:

Neil

That's exactly what I was coming in here to post. Awesome lens.

Thank you for your replies. I have been looking at the Sigma 105 macro and the Canon 100 macro. Is there anything different in these two lenses to warrant the extra money for the Canon one?

Hi,

the Canon doesn't extend when focussing, it is also USM giving full time manual focus and I think it's a tad quieter in use, but image wise there isn't a lot in it, for bugs etc the extending barrel on the Sigma might make them jump, but I don't think you will disappointed with either. The Tamron 90mm is also highly regarded.

Check reviews here:

Sigma 105mm

Canon 100mm

Tamron 90mm

If buying used watch out for older Mark I versions of the Canon as they are a lot cheaper and not nearly as good as the Mark II that you are probably thinking about. Watch you don't pay Mark II prices for a Mark I model

I've got both lenses and there's no noticeable difference when used for macro shots. It you're also going to use it as a medium telephoto then the Canon has a much quieter focus motor.

If you don't mind buying used the eagle eyed buyer can find the Sigma 150mm Macro for not much over £300 - if you want more working distance this is a fine lens to consider.
