...one that's really cheap, has manual mode, and a gun which i can change the flash intensity pleash.

It's for remote triggers anyway, as i have a canon 580EX2 also. Only using it as a second external flash for MTB shots..

Have a word with flash in the pan, who has several flashes for sale which might fit the bill. In fact I think there was one for £16.50 or something daft like that!
 
if cheap isn't that much of a biggy a 430 ex (I or II) will give u ettl which might well cut down on setting up time when you might only get a few tries, I use manual a lot and it takes chimping and fixing for the first few shots
