For the budget I've got, probably around 1TB.

FAT32 ready so I can plug and play with both MAC and PC and I don't have individual file over 4GB so not an issue.

Not sure which one, where from etc. But I'm ready to buy under recommendations on which one and where from (obvious lower price, cash back quidco would be a bonus)

Thanks

for ease i'll rather have one which is out of the box ready

I have a Buffalo 1tb, 2x Seagate Freeagent 500gb drives, a 250gb Seagate freeagent, a 1tb Western digital mybook and a 500gb the same.

They all work flawlessly so it's hard to say which is best. The Seagate have been running 24/7 for about 2 years now without falter, the rest varying form a year down to six months.

Personaly I'd just choose one you like the idea of and buy it.

oh? thanks

hence asking which one. but if they aren't FAT32, can i still format it to on my MAC?

im not sure anyone sells preformatted to FAT32 though, if its labelled as "windows" then it'll probably by NTFS and if its labelled "osx" its probably HFS..

And if it's labelled for both will likely be formatted to fat32

I'm no mac user but if a mac can use fat32 presume it should be able to format a drive to it

seen this:
Seagate Expansion 1TB 2.5" Portable Hard Drive Hi Speed USB
manufacturer #: ST910004EXD101-RK
£86 1TB portable one
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172937

but doesn't mention file format

To format the drive for fat32 within OSX, Plug the drive into the mac, select the volume. Go to Erase and select FAT from the formats list, then select erase.

thanks
think i'll go for the above seagate, but doh left my wallet at home ;-(

i guess only i can decide, but the 3.5" desktop version is £56, so £30 saving!

portable would be easier with my laptop etc. but is it worth £30 more when i'm only backing things up at home

Take into account the 3.5" drives will have an external power supplly the portable versions 2.5" drives will not and be powered via the usb

Not sure if that's important to you or not

thanks
with limited budget i decided to go for a 500GB, portable (as no power needed)
Buffalo Juststore @ £45 all in, including delivery)
