As I've just dropped and broken my glass developing thermometer this evening ( this is quite a habit that I seem unable to overcome:confused:), I'm open to suggestions for an "unbreakable" one, or at least "Asha proof":D

I'm ordering from Maco soon so naturally took a look on their website and came across this one:

Perhaps you guys know of better options??...........

I had a little glass thermometer that I used for ages but then the liquid (alcohol?) separated and now half of it sits at the other end of the tube (n)

Now I use a bigger glass one that I pinched from my cider making stuff, but I also have a digital one that also has a timer built in and is used for checking the temperature of meats and such, cuz it makes my life easier :D

Kinda tempted by that idea although i'm somewhat messy and end up with everything wet through inc my mobile ( i use the stopwatch on it) so any digital thermometer / timer thingy would have to be waterproof to at least 10 fathoms!:D

I just use a cheap plastic one, accurate enough for slap dash approach.

Thanks for the link Mike .....similar idea to what Paul suggested although sold as a purpose labo piece of kit ( maybe why its 3 times the price:D)
well if you keep breaking glass ones maybe 3 times the price will save you buying 3more ;) its ok i see you meant 3 times the price of pauls suggestion

I have exactly the same and works great, not only water proof but high temps too, the need of a battery is the only disadvantage compared to a glass one.

but is it waterproof to knee level?:D ......you guys have no idea how much water and chems get splashed around in my bathroom:confused:................everything gets developed including me!:wacky:

Well I bought a cooking one for £2.79 inc postage and was surprised it was quite accurate to + or - 0.5 c compared to my Kodak one and others.

You cant really go wrong easy to read display and as cheap as cheap.................I also made a triple timer with 3 digital kitchen timers it was also cheap and easy to use and fixed all 3 to a board at an angle for easy viewing

Maybe nobody told you this before but you have to be out of the bathtub while developing... :ROFLMAO:

Available from other sources. Seems accurate enough at "normal" temperatures - reads 100 in boiling water (or 212 if that's how you work!) and 0 (or 32) in iced water. What the picture doesn't show is the cover that goes over the spike but allows liquid to get at the probe. Can't vouch for its ultimate waterproofing, although if it's survived here for about 4 years (IIRC), it's not too easily drowned!
