hello!

Help needed on a Crumpler bag search!

Looking for something like a messenger bag to fit a 50D, 1 extra lens and a flash.

I've been looking at this type...

http://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-crumpler-muffin-top-7500.htm

can anyone let me know wether this would be big enough?... I am told the sizes are quite deceiving. I don't want to be disappointed in having to send it back as it'll cost me postage :(

Also where's the best place to buy one from?

Thanks!

I've asked for one of these for my birthday (along with the camera!) so can't really comment on the bag itself.

Although I haven't been on this forum long I haven't heard many good things about Bristol Cameras but I'm sure someone else will be along to comment on that from experience.

I know you can buy them on Amazon and World of bags sell them too.

Cheers! ... yeah Amazon are like £40 more though!

I'll give World of bags a look now ... thanks :)

Check out the crumpler site, the internal dimensions are spot on, the difficult bit is converting them to an actual size you can put you kit in. 2 DSLR's and 4 lenses means nothing especially if your lenses use 77mm filters or your bodys are gripped. To help getitng an idea of the size get busy with some paper and tape, cut the paper in to the internal dimensions and stick them together and see if what you have fits in.

I have a muffin top 3000 and a new delhi 620. The mt3000 fits the 500D with kit lens and a 50mm easy, I did fit the 580EX2 flash sat on top of everything and the bag flap just closed so it will hold a fair bit. I tried the mt7500 for when I upgraded but there was no chance it would fit my new kit in there (24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8IS) the main problem was the front to back measurement not deep enough for a gripped body without too much distortion of the bag shape.

Try the creative thing and see how you go on, getting to see the bag and try things in it is the best way but that isn't always possible, I went to the London store just to try their bags out.

Why help me find a crumpler? why not help me find a bag for my needs?

I have got the messenger boy 5500 and I can get all my kit in there!
It fits my 450d with 18-55 on,and then there is room for my 55-250,a 60mm prime and 30mm prime without being squashed.Iv got it set up as main compartment in the middle and then there are 2 equal size compartments either side of the main one for my lenses.
Best thing is try and have a look at one first thou, but I will say they are well made and very comfy:thumbs:

Yeah the Crumpler site is really useful visually, but you can't tell the actual sizes of the equipment. I might just have to chance it and order a few anyway.

Are the new delhi's the ones with the separate 'bag' you can take out of the main bag?

I have the Crumpler Muffin Top 7500, went to Warehouse Express and looked at the smaller 5500 but that was just way too small.

I couldn't understand why people here raved about these bags until I got mine, now I see why... the best thing is it doesn't look like a kit bag, my other half refered to it as a satchel when she 1st looked at it :suspect: but now agrees it looks great, it's quite a trendy messenger style bag, they are big bags... but don't look so big when over your shoulder!

The only annoyances I have about this bag are 1) the strap is fixed, you cant replace it with an optech for example. 2) the plastic locking catch at the front can be a pig to do up while over your shoulder. 3) when you fold the flap back to access your gear it keeps falling back down, it wont stay back unless you hold it back. I dare say when it's been used more this won't be so much of a problem. other than these niggles I really like it!

You can get a shed load of stuff inside! I get my body & 17-85 attached, (Hood reverse mounted) my 70-300 with hood, my nifty fifty, lens cloths, full size rocket blower, and still have lots of free space. in the front pocket I have my Camera manual, 2 battery packs, 3x SD cards, wireless remote, wired remote, tripod toolkit pouch, and I again have loads of free space.

Yeah the new delhi has the internal compartment that can be removed, added padding and makes the bag even more useful as you take the photo pouch out. The disadvantage is the bags look huge on the outside but inside isn't so big for photo kit.

I have Muffin Top 7500.
I agree with a lot of what has been said here. Cruising Comet is right about the plastic locking strap - it could do with being on elastic webbing rather than ordinary webbing.
The material seems very sturdy - to the point of being a bit stiff - probably needs more wearing in - not had mine that long. I looked at a New Delhi but because of the bag within a bag concept they are very bulky and I thought much too large.

In mine I have Nikon D80, with 70-300 attached (it just fits), 18-70 lens, 10-24 lens , SB400 flash, battery charger and leads.

My biggest criticism is that there is only one separate comparment at the front which is a bit restricted and can only be accessed by opening the whole of the bag. A zipped compartment on the back would have been useful for paper, guide book, manual etc.

Hi Peach,

I have a Crumpler Pretty Boy XXXL/7500 and it fits a 40D with 24-105 mounted, a 70-200 f/4L IS and hoods loose on top (and you could fit a 430EX or 580EX inside the loose hoods). To be honest the Muffin Top you linked looks almost exactly the same as my Pretty Boy, so maybe they just changed the names (this seems to suggest that is the case http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=622813)

As for Bristol Cameras... they do seem to list cheap prices, but more often than not when you enquire they don't have things in stock. I don't think I've had a "bad" experience with them, but I always get the impression they're winging it a bit - for example not returning my calls, not listing stock on their web site, and telling me over the phone that they had "sealed, new, 7D body only" in stock, only to find it's actually a split kit they're selling.

Can anyone tell me the best place to order from?

Anyone used Bristol Cameras?

Thanks :)

I ordered my Company Gigolo 9000 from Clifton Cameras http://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk for roughly half the RRP, seems they have quite a large range of the Crumpler gear. It arrived within a couple of days, would definitely use them again. The bag itself is brilliant, but I had already had a look at it in the Crumpler shop in Manchester.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll give both of those companys a ring to see what's in stock

I have considered the company gigolo but it looks massive! I do want some portability.
As for the messenger boys, they are just a later version of the muffin tops. I think!

Again thanks alot :)

Gone for the Muffin Top 7500 from Cliftoncameras...... I'm sure I'll be very happy with it :)

Very happy with cliftoncameras!! Recieved my bag this morning!! How quick is that!

Has anyone been to the Clifton Cameras shop?

I want to get my own Muffin Top, but want to try a few sizes. Do they have everything on the web site in the actual shop?

Don't forget, Crumpler also have their own shops, they have one in Manchester, Bristol and London.

I've been. I don't know if they have everything in stock there but they certainly have a lot. They seem like a friendly bunch - I suggest you give them a call!

I emailed yesterday made an order and they sent me my bag out today special delivery, really happy with the service, can't fault it.

hi Peach

I'm thinking of getting one of these... how are you finding getting your kit in it? what can you fit in? :)

Hey sorry for the late reply... Been in Belgium!

I have the muffin top 7500 and can easily fit in my 50D, 50mm lens, 17-50 lens, 430EX flash, spare battery, spare memory card, manual, iPhone, purse and even my house keys!
And it's surprisingly light to carry. Really well made, well worth the price Clifton Cameras are selling for.

ooh hope you enjoyed Belgium!

do you think it'd take a body+grip+lens and two other lenses?

think i'll get one as I need a bigger carry-round bag :)

Totally loved it :)

Yeah it's got soft Velcro dividers so you can arrange it how you want. If you're using a grip it would probably all fit without a lens attached. The best thing to do is size it up for yourself if you can. Or email Cliftons and ask them, they're really helpful.

Benners... this might help give you an idea of size for the 7500 (Not great pics as taken on webcam)

I get my 40D body+17-85mm, Flash, 50mm, 70-300mm, blower, lens cloths etc.

I reckon you could get a gripped body + 2 lenses depending on size of course.

cruisingcomet, you're a star... looks like it'll be perfect...
just after a bigger over-the-shoulder bag to carry a gripped D90 1/2 lenses and some accessories/spares. looks good to me!

No problem, glad to help! :)

just waiting to hear back from Clifton Cameras which ones (if any!) they have in stock... and trying decide which colour to buy! Either the brown or olive I think...

UPDATE - i ordered the Olive one :) The nice chap there said he didn't think they had any in stock, but emailed me this morning to let me know my order had been successfully processed... so should get it delivered tomorrow :)

hi, I wish to get crumpler muffin top 7500, can I use it to keep EOS 500D with sigma 18-200 mounted in it? please reply, I am in desparate need of a good bag

i'm not quite sure how long the body+18-200 lens would be, but I can fit in a gripped Nikon D90+Tamron 28-75 lens quite comfortable. this involves moving around the protective walls a bit, but can easily fit in another lens, probably 2 at a squeeze... then batteries/cards, etc. in the front pocket

it's a great bag to take around if you're just using one body and a couple of lenses.

Just to put the icing on the cake I ended up getting a Messengerboy 4000 from Clifton Cameras. They don't don't have the full selection in the shop, but they can check stock and get their hands on it, I think they have another space in the town centre where they keep their stock.

I've got a 7500 and it'll fit:

5D Mark II with 24-70 and hood reversed
70-200 f4 IS
50 1.2L
Extender
Several filters
Lens cleaning stuff and lens caps

There's no room for anything else though!
