Yes
I'm after a comfy camera strap and thought I'd just ask for some recommendations.

I'm not looking to spend a fortune so Black Rapid are kind of out.

£20 or £30 budget (it's a birthday present for me) so something along the lines of OpTech Pro / Classic or Crumpler Singapore Sling would be fine.......

Anyway - any views on the above or altenative suggestions welcome.

The heaviest kit I'm likely to be wandering around with are 1D Mark II + 100-400 so about 3KG or so.

Thanks

I've always liked the look of the Crumpler Singapore Sling.

Might add one to my xmas list ;)

Black Rapid R-Strap copy then. Loads about.

They are brilliantly comfortable, but the trick is how they attach and hang, eg I don't like the Op-Tech slingstrap attachment for example, it misses the point completely.

Take a deep breath and spend the money on the Black Rapid. You'll soon forget about the extra expense once you've used one.

Ianbarber in the Trade Sales section will get you a good deal on one

+2 :agree:

Which model Black Rapid are people suggesting here as their website lists several?

RS-4 classic I would recommend - slimline, you don't really want to store anything else on the strap. RS-7 has a curve which some people don't like, and RS-5 is quite bulky.

RS-7

Blimey - thanks for all the ideas..

I'll take a look at all your links and suggestions......

I've got a £10 one from Jessops at moment, as anything is better than the Canon one that comes with your camera :D.

Crumpler Industry Disgrace is my strap of choice now - comfier than the big op-tech I had before, without the bounciness or the quick release connectors (which I was never comfortable with).

I use the OpTech Dual Harness - works fine with just a single body if you want.

The weight is shifted from neck to shoulders, and it uses the same wide neoprene material so it's very comfortable.

It does have QR connectors, but unlike a standard strap (where opening 1 connector means the camera can fall or be pulled away) both have to be disconnected to fully separate the camera from the harness, which makes it more secure.

I have the RS 5, comfy as get oot!

And you can't afford a Black Rapid strap? It's not to be underestimated just how much of a difference it makes. Once you've tried one (or equivalent), you won't likely turn back.

It's a present (the strap) from the kids

from what i've read, sun snipers are a spin-off from black rapid. My friend has one, and he finds it less comfortable (the metal cord, and the shoulder pad isn't as comfortable) as the Black rapid. they are however slightly cheaper.

Thanks for the help folks.

It's all out of my hands now - I'll have to wait and see what arrives !

I've just had a look at the Black Rapid, djeez that is expensive. Surely the optech pro will do the same job. Anyway for me it's a optech pro which I find very comfy ;)

I hope Santa is gonna be good to you :)

Have just got an RS-7, it has left me wondering why I didn't design something as simple and obvious as that !!

I have a fairly heavy "standard" lens on my camera which makes it hang nose down rather than upside down - even better, because the camera is in just the right attitude to grab with my right hand.

It is expensive, but is worth every penny - anyone want to buy a used Nikon strap ?

How long are the RS straps? I'm 6ft 8in tall, long arms and "generously proportioned" ;). I'd hate to shell out that amount to find I could only get the camera to just under my arm...

Just wound mine out to full length - 32" (in old money). That is from the top of the shoulder strap to the base of the camera, with the strap laid flat - if you see what I mean !

I'm 6 ft and there is tons of adjustment left on my strap.

Thanks.

If I understand you then it makes the strap around 62" in total length (i.e. if you measured from a point, all the way around the strap and back to that point) + 2" for the hook/fastener. Is that about right? I can try it with a tape if it is :)

Speaking of camera straps, does anyone have one of these harnesses:

I want something that distributes the weight of the camera across both shoulders and I think this might do the trick.
Anyone own one or tried one....?

I think it's the Dual Harness you want - it can be used with just a single camera if you want.

I use one, and find it very comfortable for exactly the reason you mention - the weight is on my shoulders not my neck.

Thanks.

Yep - that's it !

Thanks :)
