recommend me a book...

im after a photography book for my dad for christmas, hes just bought himself a 400d but doesnt seem to be able to remove it from the bloody green square (and then wonders why the flash pops up for no reason!)

so basically he needs something that will help him with all the settings and whatnot on a modern day SLR and what to do for different photography situations


any ideas gents and ladies!?

I'm sure you should be able to get a book just on the 400d. I got one bought specifically about the D70 last year. It covers every aspect of the camera, what it is capable of, etc, and also stuff about exposure, rule of thirds, basic photography.. It's a good book and cost £12.99!

Have a look HERE. Mine is the 'Digital field guide' type book - I'd highly recommend it.

Have to agree with Dellipher - it's a more rounded intro to digital functionality which I think is the main interest. Also The Complete Guide to Digital Photography by Michael Freeman. Tom Ang ISBN 1-4053-0529-0; Michael Freeman book commissioned by Ilex Press, Cambridge for The Book People (no ISBN number).

I bought a couple of books that I had hoped would help me but in both it was like a minefield trying to decipher what was useful to me as a beginner.
Anyway, I read this thread yesterday and went out and bought 'Understanding Exposure'. I've read the first 3 chapters and I've understood more in that time than in the past 2-3 weeks with the other 2 books. It feels like the pieces of the jigsaw are now falling into place.
