I'm being put under pressure to tell Mrs Buck what I'd like for my birthday.
I fancy a Bluetooth speaker to use with my iPhone6 for when I'm in the garage cleaning the car etc etc.

Nothing too big, ideally battery powered and sub £50.

Any recommendations for one with reasonable volume and sound quality please?

Jawbone jambox mini. I've had one fir years and still going strong. Not just a brilliant speaker with excellent battery life. But also a superb hands free kit for teleconferences. It has saved the day many a time when no spider phone was available.

Highly recommended.

Thanks All

I'm going to digest before giving the shortlist to Mrs Buck

Thanks again :)

I've been wanting something like this for a while and have plumped for the BoomBar mentioned above. Will report on my findings when it arrives next week. Would have gone for JP's suggestion but I reckon the cheaper option will be enough for my needs wants.

The £20 from Amazon one (the 1). If it's crap, it'll go back but if it does the job, it'll get used and abused! For £20, I'm not expecting perfection, just something that does a reasonable job.

It'll be good to hear what you think - I am tossing up between the two and also the Hive, which may just be a restyled BoomBar 2.
I want something for holiday time and also when working so its worth spending a little extra for something that sounds good but is still pretty tiny (that's tiny, not tinny !)

I've used it a bit today, sound is pretty good for its size (which is slightly bigger than I thought, I wouldn't call it pocket size). It's actually louder and clearer than a £50 iPod dock we have at work.

Another plus point is it uses the same battery as many older Nokia phones used (The BL-5C), like the old N70 and 6230i so I have now have 2 spare batteries for it.

So, my Hive has arrived, as did a reply to my email to Kitsound who tell me that the BoomBox 2 has the best sound quality of the 3.

All I can say is that if the BoomBox 2 is better than the Hive then I am amazed - the Hive is not at all what I expected - way smaller, and with none of that tinny noise that one usually gets from such small boxes.
I am very impressed on first listen, and for the kind of use it will get (holiday and while working) it will be perfect.
Totally recommended !

Cheers for the update.

Guessing that the BoomBox I've got is a 1. Does what it says on the tin! Connects to an iPod Nano easily and is loud enough for what I want. I'm sure there are better examples of these little speakers that do a better job but for £20, I'm happy with it!

Not sure if this is still valid but the jbl flip is very good! My daughter has the first 1 and that was good there's a new 1 out now! You can get warranty covered refurbished units for about £50!!
