I keep looking but not buying, so I just need to get off my bum and get on with it. It's also hard to tell online just how big a bag is.

I already have one big bag, but on rare occasions that isnt big enough. I don't want to buy one huuuuge one, I would rather buy an additional one that I can use for other stuff too.

Requirements.

Big enough for a large body with something like 24-70 attached.

Room enough for an additional lens or maybe 2. Not big zooms.

Pockets for the usual cards and batteries.

Not a back pack.

Messenger style preferred.

Budget is £100

What are you going to buy?

My vanguard uprise messenger will swallow a d700 with 24-70 attached quite happily along with a load of other kit. Great bag, looks smart, shame I don't use it that often.

I don't suppose you can get to the focus on imaging show? Today is the last day and its probably the best place to go see bags and have a play with them.

I quite like the look of the national geographic medium satchel. Anyone got experience of their stuff? It looks like the sort of bag I'd happily use as hand luggage among other things.

Vanguard looks ok too.

Looking at the nat geo one again im not sure it's big enough. Domke gear looks nice but a little more expensive.

See this is how it starts and I end up getting fed up and buying nothing. ....

Tenba do a range of messenger bags, here is a link to the MIni, if you search around the site they do other colours and sizes LINK

A ThinkTank Retrospective 10 will do that for you. Mine takes a 1D MkIII with a 24-105 fitted, lens pointing down, suported by a divider either side. On either side I can fit a 17-40 plus a 580EXII on the other, or the flash one side and triggers the other, or combinations of the same. With the dividers out the bare bag will take the same body with a 70-200 2.8 II fitted. Plenty of pockets for cards, batteries etc. Also the front pocket is a bellows style and could take a second boddy if needed. The zipped rear pouch that sits next to your body will take phone, passport etc if travelling, and will take an iPad mini, but would be a squeeze for a full size pad. My Gitzo GT1542 sits securely under the deep velcrod main flap, and the velcro can be locked back to make the flap silent if shooting in a quiet environment. The Retro 20 has the same WxD dimensions but is taller and I would think a full sized iPad would fit in the rear pocket. The build quality is superb, and the wide padded strap makes it very comfortable to carry. Supplied with a rain cover. I have the Pinestone colour, a pale green, which doesn't look "camerabaggish".

I just bought this: Kata PL-minibee 110

Good price on that one, considering what they were going for. And it will fit a nice bit of gear. Holds a dslr with up to 70-200 attached, with several other lenses and the usual bits and bobs. Looks real comfortable, not too big, it's light-weight but tough materials and I think it's got good looks too. Love the yellow interior, won't be losing any small bits in there.

The only problem you might find with the Retrospective 20 is that when packed it's surprisingly square. Make sure you keep the labels/packaging so you can return it if required  I went through several bags (all from Amazon - easy returns) before settling upon my Crumpler (7 million dollar home) but even that's too small now.

It was a toss up between the 10 and the 20. Decided to start with the 20 and if it's not right send it back as suggested.

I have a feeling these are very much an emotive and personal purchase. One size definitely won't suit all.

Thanks again and at least it made me get off my bum and take the plunge.

I have and am using the Retrospective 20. Very nice bag, but wish I had gone for 10 or 30. 20 is same width as 10 but deeper to accommodate longer zooms, which I don't need. Other than that, it's an excellent bag, and works a treat.

That Lowepro bag finder is really clever. Shame there isn't an independant one that incorporates all companies. Still very good though.

Crumpler new Delhi 5 series, I bought one just after Xmas, takes my 5dmk iii and another 2 lenses ord 1 lens and flash. Will also fit a iPad or small laptop + loads of pockets for cards and cables etc £85
