Hello everyone, new bod here!

I need to make a prompt decision on what tripod to buy, because I would like it for fireworks on Sunday (no idea how to shoot them but anyway)!

I have been looking at the Redsnapper Tripod, it seems to be highly praised and the specs are impressive for the price. LINK!

Can anyone recommend or vouch for these? £45 seems good to me, it's similar to the 190XB.

I'm completely stuck when it comes to tripod heads though? I'm not really up for spending £50 on one. Can anyone recommend a decent cheapish one? Not really sure where to start and need to order tomorrow! For the EOS 450D btw!

Any recommendations at all would be much appreciated!

Thanks a lot people. :)

I got a Redsnapper Tripod and ball head about a month or so ago. It's great and I would highly recommend - great build quality and a nice feel to it. Very good VFM.

Thanks for your reply. :) Sounds good, the more posts I see the more confident I am. Cheers a bunch!

Anyone else got one? :)

Sorry for the bump.

Pretty certain about the tripod, but any other opinions would be appreciated muchly!

Any heads to recommend, don't wanna spend too much because it's for a lighter camera.
Any suggestions?

Thanks! :O

Redsnapper gets good reviews, try doing a search...............

It's worth getting a good head like the redsnapper ball head (and don't forget 10% discount for TP members:) ) as it will last you - otherwise you will probably end up having to buy another one as you camera gear grows to include larger heavier lens's.

Thanks everyone, input is much appreciated!

I've looked through a lot of threads, cheers for the advice :]
Thanks Paul, good point, will keep it in mind :)

Cheers Jason, the general consensus is that the tripod and head are both excellent.

I'm almost certain about the tripod, but I'm still slightly unsure about the head, is it worth £50? Or would I be better of with a cheapy one?! Only thing I'm doubting about now!

Thanks again, this forum really has been a great help. :)

£50 for decent head....oooer......is not expensive.........

Buy cheap,buy twice.

Seemed it to me, because I don't know what to look for!

Haha, that's pretty much sold me now :) sounds like it's gonna last a long time.

Not gonna wait for the carbon version because I don't need it and I need it now :)

ta!

I also have the redsnapper tripod, cant fault it.Good guy to deal with also

I bought manfrotto but having read all the stuff about redsnapper I reckon if I was buying today I'd get redsnapper legs and a manfrotto head.

I've got the Redsnapper legs coupled with a Manfrotto ballhead and am well chuffed.

I think it is pretty safe to say that the Redsnapper legs tick pretty much every item on the list of what aluminum legs should have.

The included bag and shorter central column are also of good quality and not included in the equivalent Manfrotto legs.

The engineering on the Redsnapper legs is amazing for the price.

I was tempted by the Redsnapper but got this one for £50 off ebay.

I've been using it for a few weeks now with the D200 and grip, with both my standard zoiom and my f/2.8 Sigma 70-200mm and I ahve to say it's brilliant. The head locks up nicely for holding the long lens and the whole thing is really light. It's maybe not as good as something like a Manfrotto 190 at full height but it's still very good.

I use MAnfrotto tripod with the Manfrotto pistol grop ball head, makes for quick positioning and will go to portrait from landscape quickly.

I am very much a touchy feely person so went allong to a coouple of camera shops and played with the goods b4 I bought.

as I said for what it is worth.

Thanks very much for all your replies, greatly appreciated.

I'm still pretty set on the Red Snapper Legs, but would like suggestions for the head. Anyone recommend a Manfrotto head, or shall I just go with the Red Snapper?

Thanks again all :)

I have the 486CR2. One nut to tighten and loosen. Very quick to operate and stable. Also fits inside the Redsnapper bag whilst still attached to the tripod legs.

Thank you very much again for your comments, all taken into consideration. I looked up the 486CR2 but found very little or no results? Is it old?

I need to order tonight really, but I haven't received a reply to the message I sent at 7.30 this morning which is slightly off-putting : 0

Thanks again, more recommendations welcome! :)

Don't be put off. I live near and have met Redsnapper (Joe) on several occasions....you're 110% safe with any deal you do. He's probably just having a busy day.

It's 486RC2, not CR2
