Me n the Mrs need to lose a few pounds so instead of joining a gym, we are gonna do a couch to 5k plan. This will be enjoying the great outdoors, but when its inclement, a running machine indoors. Can anyone recommend a good, sturdy machine with easy to use controls and good quality. Nothing top of the range, but looking to spend about £150 second hand off Marketplace or Gumtree etc. Thanks.

Don't bother with the running machine.
Will save you having to advertise it on gumtree in a few months.....

I prefer a static bike for cardio, mancave 10ft screen, HD projector.

I use an exercise bike in winter with an ipad on handle bars, we have a x trainer as well but find it difficult to watch ipad/TV and its noisier. Pretty boring running on a machine?

I know a few people who have been "happy" with a Roger Black from Argos. New they are about £300 but somewhat unsurprisingly they are often available second hand on Failbook :)

But really, nobody likes a dreadmill. It's cheaper to buy a waterproof jacket and run outside ;)

Have you tried bluetooth headphones? I used to use those to watch YouTube on a rower.

Not used them no, got some somewhere though, most of the time fairly static on bike so easier to watch a screen. That`s my excuse anyway + my knees from playing squash back in the day

At the risk of answering a question that hadn't been asked - have you thought about a rowing machine? Rowing is a great addition to running and exercises the whole body. The 'gold standard' are the concept rowers, but i have been told that the rowing machines that occasionally pop up in aldi / lidl are decent machines.

PS, you won't necessarily use many calories running, perhaps 1200 calories per week on couch to 5k. Weight loss is 90% diet and 10% exercise. Though exercising can incentivise you to stay away from high calorie food.
