The Digital Photography Handbook by Doug Harman. First book I bought when I got my DSLR, and still refer to it now!

I am a beginner aswell, and i have to say 'Understanding Exposure' is a great book i haven't finished it yet but it's helped me understand ISO, shutter speed and so on;)

The Book of Digital Photography - Everything you need to know from beginner to pro. (£12.50 from Amazon) This covers everything including the workings of the DSLR and also shutter speeds apertures and progresses to more advances techniques, all of which is in terminology that is easily understood. Highly recommended

Hi all - first post!

I'd second Understanding Exposure, everything clicked after reading that.

Another book i've found invaluable is Exposure by Chris Weston. Lots of great info about spot metering for 18% grey which has really made a great impact on my photos.

i was given the digital photography handbook for christmas, its by Tom Ang and his books are so easy to understand, also unlike other books he explains factors in which effects settings such as DOF where the focal length, distance and aperture all affect the DOF and he explains it so clearly and easily. i'd definitely recommend it.

National Geographic do a book called the ultimate field guide to photography which is informative without being too techy and has some tips and stories from some of their photographers, as well as some beautiful photo's. It's not like a text book guide, nor is it too detailed but it is a very interesting read.

Understanding Expsure by Bryan Peterson - must have read.

i got the digital slr skill book,it covers EVERYTHING you could want to learn,i got mine in wh smiths at the start of the year for £10,sure someone will still have a copy.
