Recomendations for a zoom lens for canon 600D

Going by the lens you have posted and its price, have a look at Argos who r doing a canon efs 55-250 f4-5.6 IS for £139 - looks a good price and has good reviews.

Without doubt, the only lens to buy at that price point is the Canon 55-250IS.

On sale at Argos for £139.

Cheers peeps :)

Its going well with the new camera :) just all ££££££ at the moment, took some photos at a Mini rally last weekend and very impressed with the standard lens but not with the weather :(

That is an excellent price for the lens and I have just reserved one online to pick up tomorrow :)

You won't be disappointed, you need to spend a lot more to get a lens with better optical performance.

Just reserved one from Argos and will collect later today. Very similar to the used prices! Thanks Dave/Shahin.

Just out of interest, how does it compare with a Sigma 18-250 (other than the difference in range).

Picked mine up this evening havnt taken it out yet but initial test shots in the house look pretty good.
Surprised at how small it is too be honest and the image stabiliser is very good, looking through the viewfinder on full zoom then pressing the focus button so it kicks in you can really see the difference it makes!

Many thanks to the guys who posted about this price at Argos saved me a nice bit of cash :)

The 18-250 is a super zoom and like all lenses of that type the optical quality will suffer. It is far easier to design a 55-250 or 70-300 than it is an 18-250.

If you don't mind 2 lenses, you will always have superior optics.

Picked up the lens last night and the ET-60 lens hood is now on its way from Amazon. Hopefully I'll get to test it outdoors this weekend.

And as Brizzoluk has said - you can really see (and hear) the IS working on full zoom. Does IS use up much battery?

Bad times...on a closer inspection of my lens last night I noticed a particle of something inside the front lens element.
It's bigger than a bit of dust and seems to be white in colour, it doesn't show up on photos but just knowing its there in a brand new lens I can't ignore it.
So I decided I'm gonna take the lens back today and hope they don't give me any trouble exchanging it.

Thanks.

I realise it's subjective, but is the Canon better (IQ) than the Sigma?

If you mean the 55-250 versus the 18-250, then undoubtedly yes. The 55-250 is renowned as one of the best budget zooms made with IQ similar to lenses costing 3 or 4 times as much.

The Canon 55-250IS is a cracker of a lens and for your budget, one of the best you can get. My daughter has one and loves it, gets some great results with it.

There is only cosmetic differences between the mkI & II, so I'd get the one that is the cheapest if you have an option...

Hi everyone, Missed out on the Argos deal :( Time I got the cash saved up they were out of stock then back in stock for £249 :(
I have seen the seller digigood does them for £100ish now a quick question I see some say colour box and other are marked white box, doe anyone know why this is ?

White Box means that the lens is likely to be part of a kit, (eg Canon 600D + 18-55mm lens). The shop has taken the lens out and is selling it separately so it does not come with an 'official' box, but is still the same product.

 I thought it could be something along those lines...

Yes I shall be ordering one also :) There is a camera shop not to far away from us and they have a second hand MK1 in stock for £89...so £106 new is a great price.
