OK...

hot off the mark of my first L glass purchase (70-200 F4) I need something for slightly closer up work.

my current lens collection is:

Canon 70-200 F4 L USM
Canon 18-55 kit 3.5-5.6 lens that came with my 350d
Canon 50mm prime F1.8
Tamron 70-300 4-5.6 (slow lens but I quite like it)
Tamron 28-75 2.8 (Again a bit slow but my previous fav lens)
Tamron 18-200 3.5-6.3 (not a grea lens)

my kit is a canon 40d and a canon 350d

I am looking for something to fill the 18-70+ area so I can sell some of the other not so good lenses

i plan to end up with the 70-200 L
the 50mm
the 28-75
an other

the an other I want to be a decent lens (L) so I can keep the 28-75 Tamron on my 350d (which Mrs pingu will start using). call me sentemental but I have got some of my favourite shots with the 28-75 and dont really want tp part with it.

eventually I will get a longer L lens to cover 200+ but for now I dont really need one.

My main subjects are black and tan and run about a lot (my dogs) as I want something that will be able to get me decent shots of them close up. I am findng the Tamrons focusing too slow for me to get what I want (yeah yeah I know pan.... tried it.. gave up on it...trying to buy my way into making it easier) and the 50mm isnt versitile enough.

budget?

dunno but nothing silly

is silly £500 , £1000.

everyones silly varies and it will really help if you give us a max max max budget

up to say £600 -700

thats not set in stone though but over this and I woud probably have to justify it a bit more to the missus :)

have been looking about and quite like the look of the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L

note it doenst have to be a canon L lens. as long as its fast focusing and wil give me nice clear shots it could be another make

£409 with Canon's 'cashback' at Warehouse Express
