Hi im currently after getting a new flash for my 450d, it will be used both on the body and off the body via some wireless triggers.

My budget is about £200.

So far i have found the;
Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flashgun i can get this for around £175 brand new.

Nissin Di866 £204

I dont really want to go any higher but less is always good, as long as it will work for strobist use, so full manual control and also not go to sleep. Which is an issue iv been reading about with some cheaper flashes.

Any advice would be greatly received.

where are you finding the 430 for £175? i am in same situation as you...have you considered the metz 50?

I'd be interested in this as well if you get a reply, I'm looking for my first flash for my 450d too.

I've also seen the 430ex (but for more like £190!), can anyone recommend this?

I use the 3rd party yongnuo that can be had for under 50 quid from ebay. Works wonders for a lot cheaper than the "branded" flash. Have a look at their latest model yn468.

I recently bought the new Nissin di-622 (Mk11) for my 7D

£125 to the door. Perhaps check its spec to sec to see if it's powerful enough for you.

Jessops' 360AFD for £69 is worth considering?

I got the Yongnuo, YN460-II, to play with.
As a flash, it works.
If all you want is to remotely trigger using either sync-flash, or a wireless trigger, it will work OK.

(Ideally, I wanted it to be compatible [and it stated it was in S2 mode] with the remote flash control of the 7d, so that I could have two off-camera flashes [with my 530-EX I had already]. The power of the YN460 is not as high as the 580EX [around half]. Also, it will not flash 'correctly' in S2 mode.)
As this is your first flash, and you only have the 450 (i.e. no in-built wireless flash control), this should not be a concern.

Thanks for all the replies guys. With regards to the canon flash cheap, i can get them through work so not widely available at this price im afraid.

Iv got a set of wireless triggers for use with off camera work. A lot of what im doing is going to be off camera work so im now quite tempted with the yn 560 i could get 2 for half the price i was looking at spending on one flash. I no there is no ttl function on this flash but at the moment the higher power and manual control are more important to me http://miniurl.com/84508

Thanks for the advice guys
