I don't know if anyone has done this, but I recently wrote a few letters to companies I have had loans/credit cards with.

I had a loan through Bank of Scotland, taken out in 1999. At the time, we were just married, we were told that if we took PPI it would increase our chances of getting the loan. This was of course untrue. I wrote one letter to HBoS, detailing this. I received 2 cheques back. 1 for £5500 and one for £3500, all for 1 letter.

I got a reply from Egg today, whom I had a credit card with a few years ago. Turns out that they add PPI to your card unless you specify you don't want it, another cheque for £725.

I'm still awaiting a few replies from other companies.

All it takes is filling in the blanks in a template letter on www.moneysavingexpert.com, it costs the price of the printer ink, paper, envelope and a stamp!

I'd advise everyone to check if they have been paying for PPI without even knowing it and if they have been, claim their money back!

I did this with a loan through my bank.

I went to get a loan out, and he just told me the monthly payments without telling me that included PPI. Anyway, a company came to me about bank charges (another claim thats held up at the moment because of the financial regulators looking into cases) and they said about PPI claims. Anyway, sent off their pack (no win no fee, bonus ;) ) and got a nice payment direct to my account. The company took 25% plus VAT which sounds a bit steep BUT i came away with just over £1k still and got myself my 1DmkII :D

I had nothing to show for my loan other then 5 years of repayments. Now, that has all changed so i'm a happy chap :)

My wife has a claim going through at the moment with a credit card. She wrote to the company first who just fobbed her off, so now it's in the hands of the Financial Ombudsman. My wife wasn't even working at the time when she applied for the card so how was she supposed to claim on the PPI? The bank filled the form for her so hopefully the FO will see it as missold.

Fingers crossed for her buddy!
