I don't know if anyone has done this, but I recently wrote a few letters to companies I have had loans/credit cards with.
I had a loan through Bank of Scotland, taken out in 1999. At the time, we were just married, we were told that if we took PPI it would increase our chances of getting the loan. This was of course untrue. I wrote one letter to HBoS, detailing this. I received 2 cheques back. 1 for £5500 and one for £3500, all for 1 letter.
I got a reply from Egg today, whom I had a credit card with a few years ago. Turns out that they add PPI to your card unless you specify you don't want it, another cheque for £725.
I'm still awaiting a few replies from other companies.
All it takes is filling in the blanks in a template letter on www.moneysavingexpert.com, it costs the price of the printer ink, paper, envelope and a stamp!
I'd advise everyone to check if they have been paying for PPI without even knowing it and if they have been, claim their money back!
