My Eneloop batteries aren't holding much charge anymore, I think they are about a decade old though so fair play.

Bought a couple of new Energizer Extreme rechargeable AA's (2300 mAh) but I've noticed they don't seem to be lasting as long as I'd expect. I've got a battery charger which shows a precise % of charge and tried a quick check and when charging to 100% then removing and putting straight back on charge they will suddenly drop to around 80%?

Is there a technical reason for this or could it just be a bit of an inaccurate battery charger?

Like battery state indicators in cameras. it is not easy to accurately estimate a % charge. Probably 80% is as good as you will get.
However I have no Idea how good the energiser batteries are compared to Eneloops which seem to last for ages. ( but I have no way of checking the number of cycles that I have put mine through.) but they are certainly the most reliable batteries that I have ever bought, as I have never experienced a failure.

We use the same batteries that you have bought and they seem to last OK, better than the Duracells they replaced
Charge them on an old Ansmann charger and they get used all year round outside for some lights on the patio

Around this time every year I usually buy a couple of sets of Eneloop pros.. Just get them as cheap xmas pressies - I promise they wont go to waste.

I bought the Amazon ones, specifically the ones made in Japan. Rumour has it that they are eneloops or perhaps the older enloops.

I always use the 7 dayshop batteries in everything, they hold their charge really well and I have never had a problem with any of them. Tried Duracell and Energisers and they don't hold up much compared to the 7 dayshop versions.

Get the ones in IKEA. They are rebranded Eneloops Pros but far cheaper in price.

I wouldn't look any further than these. I don't think there's any serious doubt that the white versions (2450 AA, 900 AAA) are the same technology as Eneloop Pro in a different wrapper:

Thanks all, Ikea it is! :D
