Heya folks, getting fed up ripping through large quantities of cheapy batteries when using flash and was wondering what are the most suitable ones for continuous prolonged use. I'm looking at the rechargable Ni-Mh ones but not sure whether the high number mAH around 2200 are best or the lower ones around 800mAH. Aso looking at the chargers I see some 1hr 'fast' chargers.. are there any downsides to using these over the slower ones?

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.

1hr chargers are ok, but I would advise against anything faster, as they have a habit of cooking your batteries, and likely to shorten their lifespan.
I've used 7 day shop 2700mAh and 2900mAh, both excellent. The link below doesn't just contain the 7 day shop brands, but all available from them.
7 Day Shop AA batteries

Just to echo what Michael said about fast chargers, I have a '15 minute' one which is great, however it has dramatically shortened the lifespan of my Eneloops.....

I would 2nd the 2700 batteries as they are designed for prolonged use. As also mentioned fast charging can shorten the lifespan of the battery. My charger takes about 4hrs to recharge the batteries but I get a long use before needing recharged.

My eneloops are a couple of years old & still going strong.:)

Pros and cons, higher power batteries die sooner, shorter life, lower powered ones need charging more often, but I have not used ordinary batteries for 20 years since NiCd came in, I must have saved thousands.

Not well explained.

Higher powered batteries have a shorter lifespan than lower powered.

Get yourself a set of Sanyo eneloops and I have THIS
charger which has variable charge rates and seems to get very good reviews

I've tried planty over the years and eventually bought a Quantum battery which is great HOWEVER someone said try Eneloops......

They are FANTASTIC!

The charger is just as important as the batteries. I recommend something like the Technoline BL-700, I use one and it's leagues apart from the cheap chargers you buy in supermarkets/Maplin etc.

As for batteries I use Panasonic Infinium, I have two sets of 4, a set is normally good for 1000 shots at least on the 430EX II.

I have the panasonic ones as mentioned above, i use a panasonic charger too, i find these fantastic, i did have a uniross 1 hour charger and their batteries, they both died a death far too quick for me. So they both got binned, the charger packed in in a matter of months. I needed some extra batteries and have had both 7day shop and eneloops, both are very good. Its all down to personal choice.

Just had some of my 7dayshop AA's start to fail after over 10 years of abuse, but decided to replace them with Vapextech ones as Ive been really impressed with their 9v cells.
