Beginner Recent fisheye photoshoot

I had a wander with my daughter, around Liverpool to try and do a bit of a photoshoot with her, with my manual focus 7.5mm fisheye.
I stayed at F2.8 the whole time.
As much as I tried to keep her face in the centre of the screen, and used a lot of low shooting techniques, to extenuate the legs, shooting off her toecap and upwards, I just couldn’t seem to nail the shot. Her face was too high in the frame. They look terrible, mis-placed focus and just crap!
I watched a YouTube clip of a guy and model around Canary Wharf, and the models poses and his angle of shots were my inspiration. His were great, mine terrible.
I’d even screenshot the video of the poses etc so I could copy them.
Lots more practice needed I guess.

Could you post a couple so we can see the problem...I could make an educated guess but that's all it would be.

I did try to use focus peaking and magnify before taking the shots but as i was practically on the floor, it was difficult to keep composed.

There are some cracking shots in there so don't be too downhearted!

I think you've had a good attempt at doing something very difficult... the guy in the video is shooting wide but not fisheye which to me makes what you are doing much harder

Blummin 'eck, Mr. 14mm Sony is annoying - think I managed 4.5 min of video before I couldn't take any more.

So in the video, he's using a 14mm lens with face detect (mentioned early on) so unless he defeats it (as he did sometimes) the models face was going to be sharp. It's NOT a fisheye, so doesn't distort like the lens you used does, giving his images a better perspective for the backgrounds.

One thing he didn't use in the video was flash, which your photos DID seem to use, and that allowed the model to sit in her surroundings much more easily. I know you've compensated a bit in post, but for me, this often detracted from the images you presented.

Well done for trying. If your daughter is up for another go, I'd try it without flash and with a wideangle but not fisheye lens, if you have something.

I usually use my fisheyes at f/5.6 or narrower which gives a massive DoF. VERY rarely use them for people shots. I do have some fun shots using an ultra wide angle, again at fairly narrow apertures.

They were a great set, I think you are just being too critical of yourself. Let's hope the suggestions others have given help you create the shots you are happy with.
