Just because I do not use smilieys or say 'Here is a Joke' are you not clever enough to read the lines as a gag?

Maybe if I was wearing red spectacles or had a Guardian newspaper under my arm with a hammer and sickle pin badge in my lapel, while drinking a mocha chocha foamy skinny double latte, you would understand that MEN have senses of humour.

I have a feeling that something more is to come out of this hacking business which involves Brooks, a certain ex-media man and also a certain politician.
Whether she is guilty or to what amount of guilt may well depend on how much money her defence costs if she ends up in court, usually the more money you have seems to get you a lesser penalty.

This has all involved trust and in particular those people that should uphold and enforce the law, some of whom clearly cannot be trusted.
 
I imagine News International will make sure Brooks has the best legal team available, and I doubt if there will be any problem paying their account.

There's a long way to go though, and who knows what negotiations are going to take place between the CPS and the lawyers.
 
Couldnt really give a monkeys. Yes its wrong, and some people will be very distressed, but I do fear this is turning into a witchhunt and circus. I dont doubt that most papers have probably got up to similar stuff in the past but the NotW is in the firing line and there is pressure to punish harshly. You look at the lenient way some murders, rapists and generally violent people are treated and you see that there is every chance some journos will be punished to the same degree.

And that is exactly the soundbite the news of the world would use, sensationalise their predicament by using hysterical comparisons.

They used their power for not for finding corruption in the heart of government but for titillation and intrusion. You may forgive and forget or just accept, but thankfully our judicial system will have more conviction than that.

She's a nasty piece of work that has to answer for what she and her cohorts have done.
 
Well you can't be in charge of the biggest cesspit muck raker in the business without getting some of it on your boots. Im sure she scraped them thoroughly though.

what he said. I'm not sure of the relevance or otherwise of what other criminals have done either.

not only have they not used their power for finding corruption etc, their behaviour has probably seriously wounded the principles of a free press and with it one of the principles of a democracy. I'd say thats pretty serious.

Doubtless you'll argue that there is or was a market for their wares. That holds no water, they sold their own particular brand of lies to a generally unsuspecting group of people

I thought i heard this somewhere before.

Allegedly public officials (the ones that uphold the law) were put on a retainer by news corp employees. That is serious corruption.

Thankfully this has come out before rupert bear got hold of all of sky tv. how dangerous would that have been. Not now though. :D

Totally agree Garry.

However ask Chris Bryant about Brookes. She is vindictive in the extreme and touts it as investigative journalism.

I look forward to the court case.
 
If people keep making comments like some of those which have been made on here and elsewhere there will not be any court case or trial. Her representatives will claim that it is impossible for her to have a fair trial and that it is therefore not in the interest of justice to proceed - I have seen this argument successfully made on more than one occasion.

Surely that argument could be made for every high-profile trial over the last 15 years or so then?
 
It could, but it depends whether the CPS or the trial judge agree. Comments on a photography forum - read by a very small number of people - are unlikely to persuade anyone that the defendant won't be able to receive a fair trial; but widespread speculation and comment by the media might be sufficient.
 
The jury will be instructed to not let previous/current media speculation into account. How they can do this I do not know. I just wish she would smile sometimes. I also wish I was a solicitor working on the case, xmas pressies to buy you know!

There really does seem to be an awful lot of anti Rebekah Brooks posts on here. I've never met her, I don't know her either. I also have no sympathy at all with the way that Murdoch's newspapers have behaved and I find it hard to believe that she didn't know what was going on.

Nevertheless... the premise of innocent until proven guilty MUST apply, anything else would be totally wrong!
