Really Small Tripod!

+1 for 3LT - I've not got their tripod yet but use the airhead ball head. The Vyv tripod with head combination folds down to 34 cms and weighs 1.29kg which is good for an alloy tripod with head. It will support up to 20kg as well if you wanted to use it for heavy gear.
Clifton cameras are selling the complete kit for £129 on offer at present which is a steal for such a great quality set up imo.

It may help to know what bag you are putting this in?
What you are putting on it?
What lenses?
What budget?
Helpful to also know what you will be shooting?

Otherwise you are looking at a gorilla pod.....

I use a Manfrotto compact action tripod.
Goes full height but in fairness i tend not to use the last set of extendable legs as they are quite thin (albeit still sturdy)
The pistol grip is nice and does a grand job of holding the XT1 and when xollapsed to 44cm it is the same height as my Kata rucksack (nice and compact)

Manfrotto Beefree. A small compact light tripod. Depends what you call full height. How tall are you?
I sometimes go out with a 6ft guy who uses one of these.
He shoots with a Canon brick so it will hold the food no problem.

I've just bought a SLIK mini II. Haven't used it in anger yet, but considering it holds my Canon 5D3 and 300mm 2.8 on a gimbal head, I'm pretty impressed. Closes down to a mere 13"

That is really pushing things to the limit, just the lens is twice the recommended max weight of that tripod.

Surely that kit deserves more than being perched atop a sub fifty quid table top tripod

I've been using a Velbon Ultra Rexi L with a Red Snapper ball head for the past few years, very solid and works well, supporting my 5Dmk3 easily with my heaviest lens. Collapses down to 36cm and can hold up to 4kg.

However, I can't stand the mechanism for extending and locking in place the legs. It's a leg twist mechanism, I just find it infuriating slow and cumbersome extend to grab a shot, especially so when in a hurry. It's equally infuriating to retract the legs.

Shall be watching this thread with interest as I am going traveling in the Summer and need a replacement to the Velbon.

Oh god no! I use my Big Vanguard for that kit usually. Just trialled it out to the extreme. Will be using it for landscapes with a 17-40 lens when hiking long distances.

Hi Pete - as Mr P says it will be mainly for my XT1 + 10-24 or 18-135 so doesn't need to be able to take anything very heavy.

Budget wise I am reasonable flexible but would baulk at anything much over £150ish

Will be shooting landscapes and the odd astro shot :)

Great responses Gents - thankyou all very much! I now need to do a bit of research and have a think :)
Your welcome.
As your local to me you are welcome to have a try of the manfrotto compact action.
Given your potential budget it is unlikely to be the one you invest in but the offer is there.

One thing it cannot do is go low to the ground (i.e. legs spread really flat)
