how do you guys deal with this :shake::shake:

I reply with "Sorry, but why would I take photos of your kids for free when other people pay me to do it?" and hand over a business card.

I have to say that I am sooo pleased that I live here in Spain. Here if you are taking photos near children, parents are pleased, no, PROUD that you would like to take pictures of their children.
:agree: France can be a little touchy at times, but on the whole, street shooting here is pretty cool.

Here's one I got and most locals came over to cluck at the photo

went to a local park today to get some photos of the waterfall they got there and before i even got my camera out i was hearing whispers behind me ..so just looked around and there was one woman giving me some really dirty looks ..so after asking the lady if there was a problem she replied ..you could be a paedophile. i was gobsmacked so just carried on..about ten minutes later i noticed i was being followed by 4 gents ..everywhere i went they went but kept a distance ..as soon as i got a camera out to take some photos they came over and said they were dads of children in the park and if i dont leave the will smash my cameras and then do the same to me ..there was no children about but fearing damage to my equipment i left ..but im not feeling good at the moment about the whole thing ..even contemplated giving it all up .. how do you guys deal with this :shake::shake:

There's certainly been some bravado on this thread but I think, in most cases, most would have reacted in pretty much the same way as you did. The alternatives are not as great as they seem on paper (screen) - anything from Rob being arrested for chav-shooting to others having the crap beaten out of them for what the aggresors percieve as a smart-a_s comment back. It's seriously not worth putting the theory of reactions/comments others would give in a situation they may well not have encountered (or encountered in your set of circumsances) to the test in my opinion.

There are some situations in which it is really not worth being a martyr for your art/hobby/rights and this was most likely one of those given your telling of the experience.

I probably done the same thing as the OP in a similar situation.

If it was 1 on 1, I would say something but I rather not take my chances on 4 against 1...

This is why I prefer to go to places where there isn't anyone else... much more peaceful...

I am not exactly what you would call a shrinking flower, anybody(even a group) approaching me with intent will be given the option to go off or I will demonstrate the laws of gravity.

Not recommended to all, but I fight for my rights, it a right people have fought for, plus, I never run, and rarely loose :D

As I said, IN MOST CASES and, if you wish to then fight a criminal case against you, that's your prerogative.

My main point was that most would not react in the way they portray in their responses, if you choose to take a path that could hinder rather than help you, it's also your choice.

So... Say for one instance, you Samantha were cornered by 4 men intent on raping you. Knowing you couldn't run would you fight or accept fate?

There's no need to answer that question. It was to highlight circumstance has much to do with how people would react. You are quite right that online there is much bravado, but until you have or are in such a scenario you won't really know how you'd react. We're all different. Some fight, some prefer flight. The point I think many make and everyone agrees on is the P**** tag is not just wrong but it's unfair and undeserved. Also, too many thugs with little mentality who seek to enforce their bigoted or narrow minded views on innocent people should not be tolerated. It is street vigilantism and policing at its worst. The more it happens the more they think they can get away with it.

As for fighting a criminal case... That's most unlikely if there were witnesses or the perpetrators are known to the police. Also, no prosecution would commence unless there was a reasonable chance of securing a conviction.

Yes, Common sense says walk away - but until you need to yourself don't berate people who may act otherwise. :)

I have been in the business of working alongside forces across East of England, I ran a large crime response dog unit (sort of policed backed :D) for years.

I know what I'm doing, and execute it very well, I suffer Ignorance poorly :D

If you choose to introduce the issue of a woman being RAPED as an example in this discussion and then proceed to tell me I don't need to answer that question, I feel there is no requirement to engage you in any form of discussion at all. To compare that against the OP is apples and pears as far as I am concerned and doesn't show you in the best light.

Read back on the answers to the OP. I still state that many of those would choose (and should) to walk away other than oppose the people who chose to pick a fight against them - andI still say that is the best form of action with no back up.

I choose not to engage with you further.

A thoroughly distasteful and inappropriate reply on any forum.

Have just read my whole way through this thread. I am only 19 and always feel a bit concerned taking my camera out at local parks to get pictures of trees/sunsets etc. Not had any encounters yet, sure will be interesting the first time someone comes to me accusing me of being a P**** thats for sure!

Hitler would have loved you.

My granddad and the millions of other Granddad's who selflessly endured horrors far greater than our comprehension, knowing imminent brutal unforgiven death awaits, who gave their lives voluntarily so future generations (Us/We) can enjoy the freedom of their sacrifice, would probably disagree.

Where is the backbone of Britain gone?

Probably the same place taste, decency and respect for fellow human beings went.

As this discussion has taken on a new level, I think it's time to close it before rifts are caused.
