Really good nosh - Lancaster area

Can anyone recommend a really good pub/gastropub/restaurant within, say, 30 miles of Lancaster, especially north to the Lake District or west into the northern Dales?

We're meeting the family Yanks on Sunday and need to take them out for lunch. Price isn't really an issue as we've not seen them for a couple of years and they're elderly so we may not have chance to meet them again.

Thanks for any suggestions!
 
There is a nice pub/restaurant called Slyne Lodge a few miles North of lancaster which does home cooked classic british meals. It's nothing fancy and certainly not a top class place, but it it a step above the good Chain Pub Restaurant (e.g. Harvester) and miles better than a Brewer's Fayre microwave house.
