I'm asking this on behalf of a friend.......:lol:

How do you increase the ISO to 3200? She's never been able to set it above 1600. :bonk::bonk:

Thanks.:)

Turn ISO Expansion CF I-3 on.

There is a setting in the menus that allows the camera to use High(H) and Low(L) ISO ranges. The manual will detail the specifics but it's there as I did it.

It never shows up as ISO3200, just H and IMO it's entirely pointless as you seldom need the setting and the quality is markedly worse than the (very good) ISO 1600.

Like the nice person above said!

I actually find that H (3200) is of decent quality considering. If it needs to be used then use it.
I have used it at some gigs to get the shutter speed up as high as i can

Mike

Thanks, I'll give it a try. It's just that when I was at Crufts, I really really strugged to get a fast shutter speed, even at ISO 1600. I appreciate the quality will be greatly reduced the higher you go but I'll try it tonight.

Many thanks.

Lisa

How dumb am I?????? If only I'd known I could have gone a lot higher ISO wise, I could have got some decentish shots at Crufts. DOH

Lisa

I've had some good results with ISO3200 and putting the resulting images through noise ninja.

Thanks for the replies, I tried it last night.

I'm putting another dumb question on in a mo if you guys can help me........

Lisa

sort of related, im assuming if you activate it, you can still access the other options, or do you have to activate it when you want to use it(if that makes sense)

Once active, it just stays active and can be selected as you would select ISO normally (It just goes to H when you go past 1600)
I hope thats what you mean?

I never turn mine off, dont see the point in having the option there to use it, but then having to track through the menus etc when i'm shooting live music or a wedding.....

Mike

When you turn the option on it expands the range higher rather than stopping at 1600 you can click once more to H

Its just a push-processed iso 1600 shot, you can achieve the same using exposure compensation dial.

You're right, and just to be clear, not only is it a fake ISO, but by using it you might drive highlights into clipping that might have remained intact by shooting at 1600 ISO and underexposing by 1 stop, leaving it to your editing to sort out the exposure correction rather than the camera.

While we're at it, if you shoot raw then make sure HTP is disabled. If you shoot JPEG then you should only enable it when you need it. The default should always be disabled.
