Hi,

I have been doing studio photography for a few short months and I have been booked to done photos of twins for a couple and they want a really big photo for above their fire place, I have the canon 350D, what setting would I have to put the camera on so I can take such a big photo? Would raw be the best option or jpeg at (3456x2304) be sufficient?

I look forward to any help

You can upsize to a bigger size than the native using photoshop if the native resolution isn't high enough.

I would use the highest quality the camera has to offer, regaradless.

If you're struggling after the shoot, give Lee at togsprint a shout, he'll help you with the upsizing and printing as well :)

I would use raw for sure, as I've found upsizing from jpegs to not produce as pleasing results as from tiffs created from raws, even using genuine fractals.

I would shoot RAW, post-process the shot to taste, sharpen for printing and make sure you crop it to the correct aspect ratio for the final print size - i.e. for a 10" x 8" or 20" x 16" shot you will need to crop the image to a 5:4 ratio. for a 12" x 8" or 24" x 16" you can just leave it as it is as it is already at the correct 3:2 ratio.
This way there are no surprises when the edges are unexpectedly cropped by the lab!

I'd send off the resulting full size file(s) (HQ jpeg) and let the lab do any upsizing personally, they do it all the time and (hopefully) know the best method.
