real macro

Don't know about Nikon lenses, but with the right lens there's no reason why you couldn't get an image like that with your camera. Have you tried looking in the Macro and Close up forum to see what the guys in there are using?

Taken with a sigma 105mm o a D300

the photo in your link was took at 100mm with a canon 400D, I just looked at the exif. What it doesn't say is which lens it was, but I would assume it was the 100mm 2.8 Macro, but it could have been any from 100mm and over.

The 105mm is a marco lens givig 1:1 & the siggy 70-300mm macro is 1:2

Magnification Ratio is how big a image is projected onto your sensor , a image of a ruler shot at 1:1 (life size) will show the same size as the sensor in you camera which on your Nikon would be 23.6mm.

here's one from a canon crop body @ 1:1

at 1:2 (half life size) you will see 2 x your sensor size @ 47.2mm

1:2 from a Canon Crop

That wont work as well.

The picture you posted used a Canon 400d and 100mm macro.

You will need the Nikon equivilent which is the 100mm macro. OR you could get a cheaper Sigma 105mm or Tamron 90mm macro.
The main issue is light, you will also need some sort of off camera flash to get shots that sharp.
