real ale

When I still lived in the UK anything from the Enville brewery was good, especially Gothic.

Had black sheep once at a birthday party for the MIL. spent the rest of the day feeling sick.
 
Well it never made me sick but it didn't wow me.

Came out to watch the footy tonight. But te ale pubs aren't showing it (quite rightly) so in the generic pub where my choices are slim. Bombadier, pedigree and roaring meg.

Of which I only rate the bombadier
 
A well looked after Draught Bass,6X, Hobgoblin. But any decent homebrew is what I enjoy the most.
 
Bass is not allowed in my life. It has to be the most generic bitter there is along with marstons bitter

It's been a while since I had wadsworth but I did notice recently you can get a mini cask delivered!

I just wish I lived closer to Witney as wychwood do lots of varieties of hobgoblin in home size casks as pick up only

Adnams do some nice ales, Broadside being a strong and tasty variety.
 
Yes I can confirm Adnams to be excellent. Broadside is good but even better is gunhill
 
A few I enjoy when I can get them;

Shepherds Neame - Early Bird
Shepherds Neame - Late Red
Harveys - Sussex Best Bitter
Larkings - Platinum Blonde
Sharps - Doombar

Cant forget my fave Belgian beers Hoegaarden and Duvel.

Last night I tried Badger Golden Champion Ale which was a nice refreshing bottled ale, so I ordered 3 more bottles with my shopping this week.

Hoegaarden is may be a bit overpriced in this country but the rest of Europe seems to get it quite cheap so must be more of a "rip off Britain" thing than anything else. :)
 
I work for a race team and on our little industrial estate there is a micro brewery called Hogleys. They make some really nice ale, anyone recognise the name?

Last night was my fun night :nuts:

I'm being good tonight - One Arran Blonde and a couple of Belhaven Twisted Thistle :thumbs:
 
I tried that arran blonde when i was in west calder for my sisters wedding, i really didn't like it.

Yesterday I did the brewery tour in witney at the wychwood brewery. It was super, normally you only get to drink the ale at the end of the tour but this tour we drank as much as we wanted from 4 taps before the tour even started!! I managed to get 4 halves down me, then another pint at the end of the tour. Overall for £7.50 I got 3 pints, a 45 min tour and a free glass which is amazing value for money. the guy doing the tour was classic!

We also then went on to three pubs in witney and 4 pubs in oxford, had some excellent ales including some from the hook norton brewery and skinners brewery called betty stoggs. The rest of the evening was a blue and other than adnams green bullet i can't remember any of the other ales, but there were a lot of them!

I do like Abbott out of a jug, at my old local back home.

In winter I really like Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild, really warms you up.

Quite partial to Wytchcraft and Bath Gem too.

To be honest there isn't many Real Ales I don't like.

If you're ever in Birmingham drop by The Wellington, awesome real ale pub.
 
For anyone in the Bromley area, try The Bitter End. Or Google it. More beers than you can ever imagine! And all in a shop the size of my bathroom! Haha.
 
My favourite ales include
Adnams, Broadside
Batemans, XXXB
Copper Dragon, Golden Pipin
Timothy Taylor's, Landlord
For some strange reason I have live(d) within 10 mile of all these breweries.

I have lived in North Derbyshire as well but none of the "local" ales really enthralled me

I'd drink Burton Bridge Porter when I can get there for it!

Yes! Very nice pint.

Also very partial to Green King IPA too.

Haven't been able to drink since the summer as I had viral pneumonia which also damaged my liver...reading this thread has reminded me of what I am missing!
 
They still do Ram Tam, Can't say I have had any though.
 
Timmy Taylors Landlord is a good one, a few more include - Kelham Island Pale Rider, Jennings Sneck Lifter, Robinsons Build a Rocket Boys!, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin and many more i will only remember when ive finished this post :D

Ive found most stuff from Shepheard Neame and Wychwood to be pretty average... But the world would be a boring place if we all agreed :D

Interesting what you say about wychwood and shepherds name, those are two of my favourite brewers, have you had any of their ale on tap?

Love sneck lifter by the way, right now hobgoblin and sneck are my 2 favourites

Adnams Tally Ho is noice boi thus toime o' year.

I ran a pub for 15 years and was in the good beer guide every year. (all 15 of 'em)
In fact I built up a good reputation for looking after my beer and then Cask Marque suddenly wanted me to pay for a plastic plaque, did it for a year then told them to foxtrot oscar.

Timmy Taylors is excellent when it's well kept and served right but it's one of those beers that when it's not looked after it's awful. If you get a bad pint it's likely down to the pub that served it :cool:

Yes, ive had several shepheard neames on tap and a few wychwoods, i dont know why but i just didnt feel excited by them, they just didnt do it for me on the several occasions i had them :shrug:

TT's Landlord was always a nice pint in my pub. ;)
I was always partial to a pint of Bateman's XXXB, very nice.
 
No ones mentioned the bottled Innis & Gunn whisky barrel matured jobs yet. Quite nice although a tad overpriced perhaps.

As a soft southern jessie I also quite like Badger Fursty Ferret.
 
fursty ferret is nice, can't stand that innis and gunn stuff, for me the scots just don't make real ale like the english do!
 
Quick thread revival to say I have a new favourite beer......


Black Sheep Imperial Russian Stout.

Limited to only 20 Firkins releases to the trade, I have this afternoon had the pleasure of sampling this beer. Awesome. Loved every mouthful, but sadly, unlikely to ever be brewed again. Ah well, is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved.
 
SWMBO got me (amongst other things) 12 bottles of Tribute (St Austell Brewery) for Crimblemas. Not bad at all

Not bad at all :D i got 15 bottles of Robinsons Build a Rocket Boys! and a few more random ones... I think my family think i'm an alcoholic :D
