SO the time has come that i now need reading glasses...
Ordered these off amazon and the lenses are posh, poor contrast and lots of glare.
Does anybody have any reading glasses they can link to that are optically good and don't cost the earth?

A different style, but I've been using these for years and replacing them as my prescription got worse.

Better quality than the crap Specsavers' charged me over £100.00 for.

Edit - oops! Sorry, I forgot the link. :sorry:

Thanks Sky i'll take a look.
PS, strange brand name they choose "Difuzer Anti Glare"

I used glasses direct - hardly used but for £25 they are fine.
I may go down this route of ordering a 'proper' pair with just a +1 prescription. Hopefully the lens quality will be pretty good doing this.

I buy mines from superdrug.
£4.99 almost disposable.

I may pop into Boots tomorrow (no superdrug nearby) and see what they have.

Thanks all

Any decent Opticians including Vision Express will do you an eye test and give you a copy of the results. Then go to Glasses direct and get some to suit your pocket. I buy computer spectacles from the 2 pairs for £50 but they are great spectacles and more than just do the job.

what are you struggling with?
not a trick question but is it super close or say arms length?
things have changed a bit over the last few years where you now have two type of close vision definitions
intermediate and reading, intermediate is arms length say computer stuff and reading moves the distance in closer.
for intermediate try a nice pair of +1 off the shelf and see how you go they are good for about 3 feet.

my personal faves are boots foster grant crystal range about £25/pair.

Hi Chris. I’m looking for a pair of +1 reading glasses for when I am wearing my contact lenses. But will take a look at glasses direct to see if they do reading glasses.

Definitely close up is where I have problems. I’m fine at computer monitor distances, but small text in books or magazines or using a laptop is where I find a benefit from the +1.

how old ar you?

Yep a lot changes at around 50 used to need reading glasses for books ,but now books and I.pad no glasses ,computer intermediate glasses and normal use just ordinary ones .but I have a eye test yearly and it’s a different prescription each year .

The companies that do just lenses are also a lot cheaper ... btw if your not happy with your spec savers ones take them back they will change them at no extra cost . As long as there recent

I've been using Zenni Optical for my prescription glasses for 12 years or more. Just recently ordered 2 x pairs for driving for less than £20 total, delivered.

I buy the cheapest possible for work because they get scratched and broken but you can go up into the fashion/branded glasses at correspondingly higher prices.

Since both my eyes need the same prescription for reading, I use cheapies from Superdrug, Boots, Tiger etc.. I also have a few pairs of more expensive folding ones that were £3.50 from Lidl... The only problem with the Lidl ones was that when I bought the last pair, I couldn't remember what strength they are and the only way to tell was to look at the arms of the pair I was using - not easy when the numbers are small and I wasn't wearing reading glasses! Luckily, a kind lady read the numbers for me so I could get a new pair!

47. So a typical age when reading glasses are starting to be needed.

yep my eyes went bad overnight at about the same age to the point i actually went to the doctors first but nope just tired eyesight

I have 3x pairs of these +1 below, i found them cheaper else where but this link is good, the lenses are coated as well

Home Bargains - £1.49 a pair, they have +1, +2, +2.5 etc etc.

I have a pair in every room of the house, my car and at work, they are so cheap and work very well.

I use half glasses for reading , the ones that perch on the end of your nose.
Specsavers and a lot of places don't do them but I got a pair with my prescription from this place https://www.onestopglasses.co.uk/ for £35.00, they they are OK for the money

Talk to your optician about varifocal contact lenses. They are mind blowing.

Cost a little more than regular lenses and don't work for a small percentage of people but otherwise really good. And no glasses to forget :)

I'm one of those who didn't get on with varifocal contacts. I really wanted them to work for me but they just gave me headaches. :( Don't like bi/varifocal specs either - too much OOF area; I'd rather keep swapping specs (or putting readers on to see the computer/book if I'm wearing my contacts.)

Hi Jonathan, i will be getting a pair of varifocals, but as i wear contact lenses most of the time am looking for a pair of reading glasses when i am watering my lenses.
Asda have a very good deal on - i can get two pairs of glasses with 1.67 varifocal lenses for £120 from their 'middle' range of frames.

I read that as Zeiss optical and really fancied a pair at £20 !

I found some other foster grant reading glasses on ebay last night and have ordered those. Lets see how they go.

I'll keep an eye out next time I'm in Lidl (and the middle aisle has re-opened...)

Eyes have noticeably changed at 30. for some people it is for the better.

I think that eyes get slowly more long sighted as you grow older, so if you have a slight short sighted prescription it may correct itself as you get older. But since my prescription is pretty strong i have no chance!
