Reading exif data

Right I've had an acquaintance quote me to fit some velux I've given him some money to buy the window and been giving me the run around for almost 2 months I've been stressed about it. This came to a head on Friday when he sent me a photo of a nail in his finger. I checked the exif data and it had a date of 2012 so I concluded he's lying and he's ripping me off and messaged him what the f@#k is going on. Now looking at the data on another website its two dates. one a profile date time in 2012 another modification date.with the correct date. How do i read this data? Was he not lying was the image taken that day?

You will then see if he is lying or not.

I'm assuming you mean the profile date time by this? if so this is NOT when the photo was taken but when the icc profile was generated (created) and it will be before the image was taken. You may owe your friend an apology.

The date and time the image was taken is usually contained in a field called "Date/Time Original" in the EXIF block (missing from the above) and it depends on the user setting the correct date and time in the camera too ...

It looks as though he wasn't lying about the thumb. Still been waiting since 11th sept for him to drop the window off so still taking the p#@s so I wouldn't feel too bad about it.
