Shot a friends band last week, and they are really happy with the results :D now they would like the full res files see below...

So, our plan will be to release photos every now and then (to gear publicity etc.) on fb, twitter and our website- as you’ve probably seen we will always credit and promote you as the photographer.

In addition to this, we’re in the process of putting together press packs for record labels, radio stations and magazines. We’d like to include some of the live shots for this too. Obviously for these instances, we need the pictures without the watermark... As you’ve probably seen, we would always be requested permission from any user/distributor when the pictures are being used in the public domain.

Thoughts? Iam noway a pro, but consider myself pretty good. Iam thinking I will re-size the photos a tad as the full res 7D files are 3456 x 5184 This would be a great start for me to get my name out there!

It's a good opportunity to help a friend and anything else is a bonus!

"The only people who read by-lines on images are photographers "

Remember this, its an essential quote for paid photographic work.

Not every publication will even print a by-line and certainly none of them will bother to tell you that they have.

Chances of this kickstarting a career? Virtually zero unless you mates become the next Beatles and decide to keep you on.

On the other hand, you are helping your mates, not just giving photos to strangers so just feel good about being part of the band and enjoy

Oh yeah Ive not plans to become the next Beatles togger!:lol::lol:

As you said, yes just helping out some mates-and in return I would like some coverage too where I can.

Can you expand on that quote? I dont quite follow

What I mean is that in terms of getting other paid work, having work printed gets you nowhere in its own right, especially if you cannot locate where it was used - and punting stuff out as press releases will result in exactly that.

If you want to test my theory, have some of your non-photographer mates look carefully at a front page newspaper story then take it away and ask them what the photo credit was...
