It depends what you mean.

If you mean the pixel resolution, then I'm afraid not... once you size an image down in pixels, you've lost the detail forever and you will never get it back.

If they mean file size as it megabytes, not pixels, then I suppose they can... just save them out as a TIFF rather than a JPEG, but again, they've already been JPEGed, so whatever quality was lost in compression, has already been lost. You'll never get it back. The only advantage in using TIFF at this point, is to avoid any more compression by keep saving it as a JPEG.

What file type are the images currently saved in?

Hmmm,In Scott Selby's book CS3 he refers to importing an image as a smart object,The method is different in CS6 which I have with my Imac,His article suggests that the original file is still there,Perhaps not always,As a complete newbie it might be me not understanding the info.

What you're suggesting is creating a smart object that links to the original hi resolution file. Any changes made to your smart object, will not effect the original.

What the OP has, is a file on a disk from a photographer. If that is the only file he has, he can not make it bigger. It is what it is. You can't add what's not there.

You could try using Genuine Fractals or similar.

Doesn't work. It just anti-aliases, and then sharpens. You can't add what's not there.. it just creates the illusion of sharpness. It still looks crap.

We don't even know what resolution these files are though.... this is all academic.

Ok guy's,So if you re-sized it from a file already on your PC it would link the file? So a down sized file sent from another computer does not contain anything more than what you see,Thanks for the replies,Much appreciated .

Only as a smart object.

Just make a copy of it.. easier.
