Re-install Lightroom?

On the advice of the Adobe chat people, I'm about to un-install and re-install Lightroom v5, to see if it will solve the problem of the program not opening.

Has anyone successfully done this and is there anything I should be aware of?

Just be sure to backup your catalogue, presets, etc.

Well, I took the plunge and did a re-install.

It worked! Huge sigh of relief.
