One for the chaps and a bit out of left field I guess but, if you wet shave, how often do you change your razor blades?

I've never really known how often to change mine. Blades nowadays have that slipery strip that makes them glide really nicely. It only lasts for about a week though and the blades are definitely still sharp beyond that. A packet of 4 Gillette Fusion blades says "lasts up to three months", but do they mean each blade or the whole pack?

So what do you guys do? :help:

Same blade for about 6 months now, though I only shave twice a week as a rule.

When ever I feel the blade starting to drag is the time to change it, that said I use Lidl blades (pack of 20 twin with a separate handle for about £2.50) and so I don't worry about changing more often than needful. I shave 2 or 3 times a week, being a beardy means I can get away with a bit more stubble than most and have less to shave, a blade can last me 4-8 weeks.

I shave every 2 days, the razorbalde satys sharp for about 1 month. (I do have thick hair) I have found that gillete stay sharper for longer than other brands such as wilkinson sword. Always seem to cut myself with Wilkinson sword too

whenever my face gets more irritaed/cut

proper soap and brush seem to make the blades last longer than foam, I think thats more because it stops it doing damage when its a bit blunt...

I get through a couple of blades/disposables per shave.

Good job the shaves only happen at 2-3 yearly intervals!

I change mine right after my Bl***y wife uses it to do her legs.:bang::bang:

:D

I shave every other day (except weekends!! :D) and probably replace my blade every 3 to 4 weeks.

Thanks for the replies . So it looks like 3-4 weeks is about average for a daily shaver then, and that's about what I'm doing :)

I shave every morning. Prep cream (SA product), hot water, soap and brush. Blades last 4 - 6 weeks, and I change them when I can't shave comfortably and closely.

Prep seems to lubricate skin and the blades last longer. I think some SA stores in London sell it on the internet.

Currently on week 7 on the same blade - Gillette Mach III - they seem to last forever - though it is a relief to put a new blade in!!!

I change mine every 1 or 2 weeks, but I tend to shave twice a day if I'm working in the evening and daytime which happen more than I'd like!

I shave once a week in my case, and I do it while I'm in the bath (that did sound a bit wrong there!) and I break out a fresh blade once a month or thereabouts.

I shave every day and i need to shave twice a day really! Yes i'm a bit hairy!! My wife won't let me grow a beard so i have to shave which i hate. My blades usually last a week, may be a week and a half. Some blades last longer than others..

You're not the only one Ian, just make sure you rinse the bath out once you finished!

I use disposables on my litttle leggies, but I'll admit I only throw it away once it takes too long to shave. If I cant de-fuzz quickly then it's time for a new one.

Oh and twentyten - your wife is a naughty lady - at least you know not to share blades :D

I shave once a day and no matter what brand of blade I use, I'm lucky if I get more than one shave out of each blade. So I use Tesco's disposables with lubristrip.

in my job (a builder) i donot have to shave everyday so mabey twice a week, and i find i only get 3 shaves out of a mach 3 before it goes in the bin, looking at what you lot get out of one, either i have really sesitive skin or bloody tough hair ha ha

I always find that proper prep makes a balde last longer. I have to shave once a day. If I just wet my face iwth hot water, then gel, then shave it is ok if the blade is new and the hair short. If I miss a day shaving, then I have to get a hot wet flannel, and hold it whilst it is nice and hot onto my face for a minute before I shave. This makes the world of difference as the heat softens the hairs, so it hurts less, gets closer and the blade last longer. and seeing how expensive blades are, I make them last as long as I can. I also found that giveing them a good clean to amke sure there are no hairs left in the baldes helps to make it last.

I use Tesco Matrix blades and shave both face and head daily.

I like to change my blade weekly otherwise I find it starts to drag as the blade goes blunt :)

This is why I shave in the shower! :)

I have bloody tough hair and I tried a fusion. Two shaves and it started to drag a lot and after the thirs shave the irritation was starting to set in .

A few months ago I bought a DE razor and I get about 6-8 shaves out of a blade - and blades cost about 30p each.

Gillette Turbo ,lasts about 4weeks ,but I shave one way with the turbo, then re-lather and use a cheapo from wilkies to go the other way.
ALWAYS use an after shave balm though to stop the burns.

PS
If using the hot flannel method watch out for the Maffia, they always pick this time to come in and shoot you.......:whistling::runaway:

I may shave every day for a while then go ages without and grow a beard.

If I shave every day I tend to go about a week with a blade - 7 shaves or so.

If I decide to 'go stubbly' for a while and shave once a week I might manage 3 shaves per blade.

For me it's not about how well the blades cut the whiskers - it's about how they leave my face (or rather my neck) feeling. An older blade will still shave well but I often get sore skin afterwards.
