Hi everybody,

Just bought a Canon 500D with the 18-55mm Kit.

I'm after the Raynox for Macro shots. Will it work well with my 18-55mm lens? Will I need to purchase any tubes or adaptors or anything or will it snap onto my lens and work straight away?

What kind of quality and zoom can I expect? Will I be able to take very close-up pictures of insects and the like?

Lots of questions I know! Sorry!

Thanks ;),

Nick.

You won't need any adaptors - it comes with a snap on thingy that will fit on the front of your lens. Have a look at the Pix.ie link in my sig for examples - all the "Macro Wildlife" shots are taken using the Raynox 250. Or just search TP for "raynox" and you will get lots of examples.

WOW! Some lovely photo's in your sig! Thanks for the help!

Were the water droplets taken with the raynox?

How close did you have to get to the subject with the Raynox?

Yes they are - but with the Raynox DCR 150 and my 18-55mm lens rather than the 250. I think the Raynox lenses are great value for money - if I were going to pick just one I'd go for the 250. There is another that will get you even closer, I think it is the Raynox MSN 202.

You do have to get quite close but as you can see they are definately useable for bug shots.

Great! Your help is appriciated! I'm a newbie at this as you can probably tell!!

Apart from the fact that the little Raynox works pretty well, you really can't go wrong for £40  Thousands of pics on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/raynoxdcr250/

Are you a Scoobynetter? Loved mine for ten years :)

I did a raynox test for Cobra a couple of years back using the Sigma 105 and all 3 raynox macro lenses if that is any help, here is the link. Linky

my raynox 250 does nt work well with my tamron 17-50 - i get heavy vingetting - makes it unuseable....i normally use it with my 70-200...

Raynox works fine from about 45mm and longer - why would you want to use it at any shorter focal length anyway? 70-200-ish gives a better range of working distance though.
