RAW vs JPEG resolution question????

Might be a really stupid question, but did you by chance save it as a .tif by accident, i'm aware that these can be considerably larger than the original.
 
PPI is only important when printing, on a computer its pretty much a nominal number, the total number of pixels (e.g. 3000 x 2000) should be the same.
 
As said, PPI is irrelevant to digital image quality, it's a printing size option that can be changed independently of anything else. If you're opening the RAW file in CS4, just change the default setting under the image preview to whatever DPI you want.
 
you shouhl be able to tell which is which as one will be around 4 mb and the other 14mb (ish)

Can't find how to change the default, I'd like to have them both the same just for convenience.
 
The ppi of in camera jpegs is camera manafacturer (and sometimes model) specific and cannot be change in camera. Sony use 350ppi, Canon have used a mixture of 72ppi,180ppi and I think 160ppi, I have no idea of Nikon, Olympus use 311ppi.

Oly use 311ppi because it is the same res as the only dye sub printer they manafacture, make it easier for printing directly from the card I suppose.

You can change the output of your raw files to 350ppi in CS4.s raw converter by clicking on the blue writing where it says colour space and bit depth which will give you a new box to make alterations to your settings.
