I shot a rugby game last week, when in LR3 viewing off the RAW I can shapen & noise to get pictures looking better, but I find that I need to calncel out all sharpining for export as the compression makes the picture nasty...

I hope I'm making sense, its really annoying that I can see a good pic on screen, but I cant get it out!

I've not tried with TIFF but I cant really use that format to upload onto the web...

Any thoughts?

It could be that you are over compressing the image and are getting the dreaded JPEG artifacts. Try significantly reducing the compression and see what the result is. Are you trying to get the file down to a particular size for uploading? If so you may simply need to export the image with a specified pixel size ( i.e. 800 x 1200 ) and then apply a smaller amount of compression. Rather than trying to squeeze a full res image down to a couple of hundred K

Try to stick around 80% or higher with the JPEG compression, if you can and see if this improves things.

Also don't over sharpen as this can cause major problems

I had a play and I looked closer into the LR3 default settings... I noticed that the brightness was by default turned up... I took h brightness down and altered exposure... I'm assuming the exposure is critical to get correct before secondary things like brightness.. Looks a little better...
